Presented VHS Tapes


On Tuesday, September 27, 2005 Junior Vice President April Bullard (on the right) presented from her own personal collection, 34 VHS tapes of the TV series: Rod Serling's "Twilight Zone".   Recreational Director Lynn Hughes (on the left) received the tapes on behalf of the Oregon Veterans' Home, The Dalles, Oregon.



New Member Initiated
Sister Lydia Parker


On Friday, November 4, 2005 the initiation of new member Sister Lydia Parker was conducted by Tent Officers. Lydia (left) is being congratulated by Past Department President Marilyn Spofford.


New United States Citizen
Receives U.S. Flag Lapel Pin

Dolly Madison Tent President Bev Przybylski and Patriotic Instructor Perri Pitman Parker (left) attended the December Naturalization Ceremony in the Hatfield Courthouse on December 15, 2005. Sixty persons became citizens of the United States! Flag lapel pins were sent from the Tent for each new citizen, and distributed at the end of the ceremony. Judge King presided.   Accompanying Sister Perri were two Boy Scouts from BSA Troop 870, who were working on their Citizenship of the Nation Merit Badge.


Community Event Participation
Portland Christmas Ship Parade


Our tent member, April Bullard, participated for the first time in the Christmas Ship Parade on the Columbia and Willamette Rivers. The lighted Christmas display that she made for her boat included two lighted candy canes.

The Christmas Ship Fleet averages about 55 to 60 boats between the Columbia and Willamette River fleets. Both fleets were out every night for two weeks beginning December 8, 2005 and running through December 21, 2005. This was the 52nd year of the Christmas Ship Parade.

Two New Members Initiated


Sister Jackie Goodling and Sister Megan Kolzow were initiated on the 7th of July 2006.


Our Holiday Meeting


Tent members gathered at the Albertina Kerr Center for an early holiday luncheon on Friday, November 3, 2006.



Placing Veterans Day Memorial Wreaths


Members of the Oregon tents placed memorial wreaths on Veterans Day .

They are standing at the foot of the war memorial that is tucked away in the center of Lone Fir Cemetery, Portland, Oregon.   The four sides of the base dedicate the monument to veterans of the Civil War, the Mexican War, the Spanish-American War, and wars against the Indians.

The monument was dedicated in 1939. DUV contributed two of the benches surrounding it.


The Color Guard


Uniformed men of the four wars processed into the area to start the event with ...the riderless horse...boots backward significant for fallen comrades. The color guard presented the colors with Harold Slavic of Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War serving as the master of ceremonies for the program.


Gun Salute

A 15- gun salute was given.
A group of Confederate uniformed reinactors were present and a group of well dressed Confederate members held up a a large Confederate flag.
