Unfortunately for us researchers, as with most of the 1930 census, the Multnomah County census of 1930  is not soundexed. Yet.

Until it is, researchers can help narrow down their searching time by following these simple steps:

1. Locate your individual in the 1930 city directory, and obtain their street address.

2. Using that address, look up that street address in the "Householder's Directory" towards the back of the 1930 Portland city directory (those pages are pink).

3. Check for the cross streets before and after the address you are seeking. Be cautious when writing down the address - designations such as Ave, Dr, N, E, S, and W can make a difference in locating the right ED.

4. Go to a this great website where you can enter those three street names, and  enter them into the search form.

5. You should have returned to you the enumeration district (which begins with a 26-XXX) where your individual should be enumerated on the census.

A handy searching site has been provided by three researchers.
