January 1 -- 6:45 p.m.    Telephone.

942 Mallory avenue; one and one-half story frame, owned by John Bowman, occupied by J. B. Hoffman as a residence. Cause of fire, burning flue.

January 2 -- 11:10 a.m.    Box 12.

269 and 71 Second street; three-story brick, owned by J. M. Strowbridge, occupied by Portland Mercantile Company as a department store. Cause of fire, coal oil stove. Total value of property involved in fire, $40,000.00. Loss on building, $25.00; on contents, $12.00. Insurance on building, $10,000.00; on contents, $4,500.00. Insurance paid on building, $25.00; on contents, $12.00. No work.

January 2 -- 3:23 p.m.    Box 142.

72 Fourth street; two-story frame, owned by R. Williams, occupied by Grace Burlen as a dwelling. Cause of fire, gas jet. Total value of property involved in the fire, $2,300.00. Loss on building, $180.00; on contents, $137.50. Insurance on contents, $400.00. Insurance paid on contents, $137.50.

January 3 -- 11:15 p.m.    Telephone.

554 Tillamook street; one-story frame, owned by D. P. Wood, occupied by D. P. Wood as a dwelling. Cause of fire, burning flue. Total value of property involved in the fire, $2,600.00. Insurance on the building, $500.00; on contents, $300.00.  No work.

254 First street; one-story frame, owned by J. Enery, occupied by J. T. Byar as a Cigar store. Cause of fire unknown. Total value of property involved, $765.00. Loss on building, $200.00; on contents, $200.00. Insurance on contents, $400.00. Insurance paid on contents, $400.00.

January 4 -- 11:40 p.m.    Box 123.

152 First street; one-story frame, owned by J. Enery, occupied by J. Rosenthal, as a second-hand store. Cause of fire unknown. Total value of property involved in the fire, $1,200.00. Loss on building, $200.00; on contents, $811.13. Insurance on contents, $1,000.00. Insurance paid on contents, $811.13.
