David Powell

David Powell was born about 1814 in Kentucky. He married first in Kentucky. In 1837 they removed to Missouri. There were five children from that marriage. In 1847 the family came to Oregon. Soon after their arrival, his wife died, as had one son William died on the Plains. David Powell died in 1901.

In 1852, he married again to Ann E. Greer. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 4, 1834, the daughter of James Greer, a farmer in Polk county.⁽¹⁾ From this marriage came five more children.

David Powell died April 8, 1887, and his wife went to Dallas to live with her people, until they died. In 1903 she resided with a daughter in California.

The five children of David & (--?--) Powell were:

	Leonard J. Powell, born about 1834.⁽²⁾ He died in Seattle.⁽¹⁾
	Susan F. Powell, born about 1841.⁽²⁾ married Henry M. W. Webb at the house of H. C. Benson on July 5, 1867.⁽⁵⁾ She was, in 1903 living in California with a family.⁽¹⁾
	John Wesley Powell, born about 1843 in Missouri.
	Sarah A., born 1846, Missouri. On November 22, 1865 at the home of B. C. Lippincott, she married H. C. Hill. Witnesses were Sherry and Lizzie Ross.⁽⁷⁾ By 1903 she was of East Portland, had a son, and was widowed.⁽¹⁾
	William Powell, died in 1847 on the plains.

The five children of David & Ann (Greer) Powell were:

	James M. Powell, born 1854, Oregon. He died when he was 9 years old.⁽¹⁾
	Jeanette "Nettie" Powell, born 1855, Oregon. She married George W. King, of Umatilla County on October 14, 1885 at St. David's Church in Portland.⁽⁵⁾ By 1903 they were of Palo Alto, California.⁽¹⁾
	Ardella Powell, born 1858, Oregon. Died in 1861.⁽¹⁾
	David Colvin Powell, born Jun 4, 1859, Oregon. On December 24, 1886 he married Ida Ames at the home of David Powell. Witnesses were E. L. Powell and Kate Ames.⁽⁶⁾
	Edward. L. Powell, born about 1865.⁽⁷⁾ He resides in Portland, and is a correspondent for Associate Press.
