John Powell

John Powell was born May 28, 1823 in Pike County, Kentucky. His family was of Welsh ancestry. He was orphaned in Kentucky at the age of 7, the son of Allen Powell. Five sons of Allen (David, James, Jackson, William, and John) and one daughter (Jane, who married Mr. Pugh) started in 1847 to the Northwest, William died in the Blue Mountains.⁽¹⁾

On December 20, 1852 he married Martha A. Milliorn. She was born in Virginia about 1832, a daughter of John Milliorn.⁽¹⁾

Children, all born in Oregon:

	William Franklin "Frank" Powell, born about 1854. He was married February 19, 1882 at the house of William Legg, to Laura May Legg, in Multnomah County.⁽²⁾
	Sarah Powell, born about 1856. Married James (or John⁽¹⁾) M. Stolt/Stott on February 18, 1880 at her father's house.⁽³⁾
	Thomas Cader Powell, born about 1857.
	Steven Douglas, born about December 1859.
	Fannie Powell, She married William B. Gilson on February 3, 1886 at the house of James State Jr., in Multnomah County.⁽⁴⁾ She died in East Portland.⁽¹⁾
	Rosa Powell, born about 1855,⁽⁵⁾ married Carl Brandes.⁽¹⁾
	Irene Powell, born in November 1869.⁽⁵⁾ Married John Sewell, and died at Portland.⁽¹⁾
	Child died in infancy.
