Oregon Daughters are proud to own and maintain four museums which celebrate and preserve our state's history. Under Oregon State Regent, Lillian Eaton Stewart, a goal to ensure long-term financial support for these treasures was implemented by the establishment of an endowment fund. Tualatin Chapter Daughters have adopted the museums as a primary focus of our work in the community. Our participation includes fund raising events, acting as docents to visiting school children, providing yard and garden upkeep to the beautiful grounds at Champoeg, and serving on various museum committees.
Please consider adding a visit to these sites if you live in Oregon or plan a visit to our state.
The
Robert Newell House Museum
Complex, near Champoeg Park, Oregon, is
comprised of the Newell House Museum, the Butteville School House, and the
Butteville Jail. Built in 1852, the Newell House was in desperate need
of repair when it was acquired by the Oregon State Society, Daughters of the
American Revolution (OSSDAR) in 1952. Now repaired, and with
beautifully restored interior rooms, the house is open for tours and hosts
numerous functions, including weddings, throughout the year. Permanent
collections include furnishings, inaugural gowns worn by many of the wives
of Oregon's governors, quilts and coverlets, and over 100 West Coast Indian
baskets.
