NEW HAMPSHIRE GENEALOGY
New Hampshire became a state on June 21, 1788. It had been ninth of the original 13 colonies. Chesterfield was opened for settlement circa 1733 and was originally known as Fort No. 1. Chesterfield received its charter in 1752 and was named for Philip Stanhope, Earl of Chesterfield.
