Search Tips:
Searches are not case sensitive
Valid operators are: AND OR ANDNOT. Using AND means both words appear in the file. Using OR means either word appears in the file. Using ANDNOT means you can eliminate words e.g. John ANDNOT James
Right truncation is supported using the asterisk * as wildcard e.g. Richard* finds files with Richard, Richards, Richardson etc
Search for phrases by enclosing search terms in quotation marks. e.g. "John Smith" finds files with the words beside each other.
Use parentheses to remove ambiguity from search expressions. Otherwise,
operators execute from left to right. e.g. Smith AND (deed* OR indenture*) This search expression finds files
containing Smith and either deed, deeds, indenture, or indentures.

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL SEARCHING:
- Be creative with spelling - remember that spelling wasn't exact in the early years
- Remember that transcribers can make errors so if you don't find your ancestor, do a manual search by each list.
- Search Engines are indexed once a week, so you may miss an ancestor unless you also search using the links below

National Archives of Canada Immigration Records 1925-1935
Search for passengers on ships to Boston Massachusetts [330 names] & Providence, Rhode Island [42 names]
The National Archives of Canada holds immigration records from 1865 to 1935. The names of immigrants arriving from overseas are recorded in passenger lists. Those arriving from or via the United States are recorded in border entry lists. A series of old nominal indexes exist for the 1925 to 1935 records. In cooperation with the National Archives of Canada, the Pier 21 Society in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has input the information from the passenger list indexes into this database. Use the Search Box below to search the NAC database of immigration records. It is not necessary to fill in all the fields. Results of your search will show in a separate browser window, and clicking on any 'hit' will take you directly to the NAC site for more details.
