Adams County, Pennsylvania Lookups

The Lookup Volunteer's list is a list of books and people that have agreed to look up information for YOU. You will notice ONLY a limited number of books at this time. Would you like to help as a LOOKUP VOLUNTEER? If you have information pertaining to Adams County, PA, share it with others! We're looking for people with Family history books, magazines, etc. (or access to those items in a nearby library) to do lookups for others. Please take a minute and send me your listing of public domain items that could help someone else. I'll add you to the list below and others can see your resources listed, contact you by e-mail, and you can answer at your convenience. Please send details to FamilyHart.

Please read guidelines before submitting a request. Lookup volunteers will not do on-going research for your family. Please be courteous and do not over load them with large multiple requests at one time.

When requesting a lookup please use these guidelines:
  1. Please be specific. Name exactly who you are looking for, and include dates and places. Spouses and/or siblings often help find your ancestor, too. Don't ask for everyone of that surname in the township or county.

  2. The volunteer can only give you basic information and cannot copy non-public domain material for you. We encourage you to purchase works listed if they are available for purchase or to view the original source at a library for further information on your ancestor.

A Compendium of the War of the Rebellion by Frederick H. Dyer, The National Historical Society, Morningside Press edition, Dayton, OH, 1979. Vol. I & II, 1796 pps. This is the authoritative compilation of the Civil War units--when raised, mustered out, regiment history, battle dates, casualty stats, etc. It does not have lists of individuals (other than officers at Brigade level or higher). This is a great source for genealogists wanting to know about the travels and makeup of the units that their ancestors were a part of. Curt Sanders

Rhineland Emigrants: Lists of German Settlers in Colonial America edited by Don Yoder (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Company, 1981).

I have found this to be very useful in my own research. It lists mostly Palatine emigrants, where they came from, when they left their home village/town for the new world (sometimes with comments from the parish register), genealogical data on the family before it left the old world, and in many cases it links the emigrant with his or her arrival (mostly in Philadelphia) to the ships' lists of Strassburger and Hinke's book.
