North Beaver Twp. was one of the original townships of Beaver County, established in 1800. Shenango Twp. had separated by 1804 and by 1849, the entire township was incorporated into Lawrence Co. Pa. The southern portion of what is now the City of New Castle was part of North Beaver Twp. There were two different tax lists for this year. There were minor differences between the two indicating that they were compiled some months apart. The two lists were combined to produce a complete list of inhabitants and to find the most likely spelling of the surnames.

The numbers which follow the acerage undoubtedly refer to the lots of the 1st District Donation Lands. Since some of these lot numbers are repeated, the cited acerage was often only a part of the whole lot. The location of these lots can be found by consulting the Pennsylvania land warrent maps of Lawrence Co. Pa.
