CALIFORNIA UNION MEMORIAL PARK
(OLD CALIFORNIA CEMETERY)
The cemetery is mentioned in county histories as an "ancient burial ground." There are no recorded deeds on the property, but the cemetery is depicted on the original town map submitted for incorporation on May 1, 1849. The property was originally owned by the Jackman family who permitted burials of family members and veterans in the cemetery.
For ease of maintenance, the tombstones were removed in the 1950's.
Now in 2005, the original tombstones are adhered to cement walls creating a unique memorial monument with a granite walkway for viewing the stones.
