Cameron County Genealogy Club Discover Your Past
Meeting Notes 10/4/2003
|
I have been slack in keeping up with new memberships as they come in!
I added Surname information from eight recent applications. We
presently have 65 members & 118 members on the Email List.
The November 1st meeting was well attended with 32 people signing in.
We had quite a few visitors who came to the 1940 Tour of Emporium.
We showed the 2nd part first and after the meeting we showed the first
part...many folks stayed for that.
Due to all of the visitors, we did not cover any business. Door
prize was one of Ira Collins Royally Rugged Cameron County books.
New member John Jordan was the lucky winner.
As you know, the Historical Society has voted (unamimously!) to start
a Genealogy Club. We will vote on our new name at the next
meeting. Those of you who cannot attend, please send me your vote for
a new name before the next meeting.
As far as I can tell, nothing will change in what we have done in the
past regarding the Club, except for membership in the Cameron County
Historical Society. There will be added benefits that will
become apparent as we move along. A quarterly newsletter will be
the first one you will notice...next issue will be out in January
sometime.
There will be an opportunity to turn in your dues at the next meeting
for 2004. I know that a few of you will not be joining the
Society and continuing your membership with the Club....if you know
you will not be joining the Society, please let me know. Thanks!
Videos and DVD's of the 1940 Tour of Emporium will be available at the
next meeting....the cost will be $19.95. If you want one or more
reserved for you, let me know and I will add you to the list I am not
sure what the postage will be yet for those of you out of the area.
There will be a limited run of these made at first to see how they go,
so it will pay to reserve copies...these will make awesome Christmas
presents for you and your family. There will be extras with the
purchase...at least one free pass to the Little Museum and maybe
something else yet to be determined. There will also be a
limited number of gift baskets made available with an Ira Collins
Book, 1940 Video or DVD, pass to the museum, free one year membership
to the Society for yourself or someone else, popcorn, soda and movie
candy! I will let you know the cost of these....I believe at
least one will be raffled off by the Society.
I am still looking for ideas for future meetings. We will
discuss which PA State Speaker we would like to request for 2004 at
the next meeting. Look for the Refreshment Committee at the
next meeting!
I found an 1867 Septennial Census for Shippen Township which I hope to
have online soon. I had never heard of such a thing
before...there may be others for the other Townships, but I did not
see them.
