Cameron County Genealogy Club Discover Your Past

 Meeting Notes 10/4/2003

We had a great meeting today with 19 people attending.  The article in the
local papers brought us 5 first timers with two of them joining the Club.

Mike gave a financial report...last meeting beginning total was $120.55,
with $10 collected at the last meeting, three donations totaling $38.00 from
Ray Barr, J. G. Klock and Jack Cox were received this past month.  This
meeting's pass of the hat brought in $32.00 for a grand total of $198.55.
We voted to spend $30 to replenish the brochures which have been given out.

Mike reported meeting with the two school principals and their interest in
exposing the students to county history and genealogy.  Each teacher will
receive a brochure so they are aware of the resources available locally.
More will be reported once the details are worked out.  Cheryl H. suggested
spreading the word to other local school districts as they may wish to
participate also.

The rest of the meeting was the viewing of the 1940 video tour of Emporium.
Only the first half of the one hour show was shown....the 2nd half will be
viewed at the next meeting. Everyone seemed to enjoy looking into the past.
Sandy Lyon saw her husband and visitor Mike Kuleck saw his Dad.  Others were
able to put names to many of the faces. It was really a good time. Next
meeting we may show the film by projector the way it was intended to be
shown!

This month's door prize was dinner at the Historical Society gathering next
week, won by Cheryl Hockenberry...now if her schedule only allows for her to
come!

As usual, folks hung around for almost an hour after the meeting. Mike
opened the Museum after the meeting and six people went through it.

The Little Museum will be open both Saturdays and Sundays through the month
of October.  Stop by if you are out taking in the Fall Foliage!
