Weatherly Baseball Team ca. 1890 - Submitter: Brian Gallagher
This photo was in my late grandmother's belongings. She and her brothers were born in Weatherly in the 1870's. The downside is that I don't know anything about the team, the identity of the players or managers in the photo. Using other family photos from this time period, I estimate the date as somewhere in the 1890's. As you can see, most uniforms say Weatherly, except for the one in background that appears to say M C A C.
I don't know how well you can see it, but the glove in the bottom right is quite unique. It looks like it barely covers the three middle fingers, leaving the thumb and pinky exposed. A real baseball fan may be able to date the picture this way. I'd be interested if anyone in the area can provide any additional info on the league, team or players. I also hope to get up to Weatherly area this summer.
If you or anyone else at the Carbon Co web site can suggest places to find out some local history, I'd appreciate it.
