Father Charles B. Diamond of Loretto R.D., formerly of Twin
Rocks, died Monday, Jan. 16, 1989, at Altoona Hospital, after
a brief illness. He was 75. On June 7, 1988, he retired as pastor
emeritus from St. Augustine Catholic Church. Bom May 8, 1913,
in Bymdale, he was a son of the late John and Margaret (Frost)
Diamond. He was preceded in death by brothers, George, John, Patrick,
Peter and Walter; and sisters, Catherine, Ann, Pearl and Josephine.
Father Diamond was a graduate of Blacklick Township High School,
and St. Francis College and Seminary. He was ordained May 2, 1940,
at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, by the
Most Rev. Bishop Richard T. Guilfoyle. He served as assistant
pastor of St. Michael Church, Loretto, and St. Mary Church, Altoona.
Father Diamond was a former administrator of St. Michael Church;
and former pastor at St. Joseph Church, Coupon; St. Thomas Aquinas
Church, Ashville; and St. Augustine Church. Friends were received
at St. Augustine Church rectory. Transferral of remains took place
at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19 to St. Augustine Church, where a Pontifical
Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated Friday, Jan. 20. The
Most Rev. Bishop Joseph V. Adamec was theprincipal celebrant;
the Rev. Msgr. Richard E. Conti, homilist; and the Rev. Msgr.
Roy F. Kline, master of ceremonies. Interment was in Holy Name
Cemetery, Ebensburg, with funeral arrangements handled by the
Donald J. Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville. (The Journal. Nanty
