WILLIAM SHIFFER AGED 68, EXPIRES
Pioneer Coal Operator of Cambria County, Succumbs at Home in Ebensburg

William C. Shiffer, aged 68, died last night at 10 o'clock at his home, Lloyd and Cherry Streets, Ebensburg. Death was attributed to heart trouble, following an illness of only a few days.
The deceased was born in Hudson, Luzerne County, on March 17, 1864. He and Miss Clementine Crouse of Chest Springs, were married February 7, 1889. Mr. Shiffer was one of the pioneers of the in the coal industry in Cambria County, coming to the county about 52 years ago and locating in Hastings.
Mr. Shiffer was a member of Summit Lodge No. 312, F. & A. M.; the Williamsport Consistory, Jafa Temple, and Highland Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Surviving are his widow and the following children: Millie, wife of Dr. H. O. Diffendorfer, of Beaverdale; Julia, wife of Ernest Apel of Ebensburg; Frances, wife of Willis Fussel, of Philadelphia; Murray Shiffer, of Johnstown, and J.B. Shiffer, at home.
Private funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home. Internment will be in the Union Cemetery at Hastings, in charge of Duke J. Rosensteel, local mortician. Friends are requested to omit flowers.
