Welcome to the Centre County PAGenWeb Project Home Page! We're so glad that you stopped in for a visit. The goal here is to provide the best on-line resources to assist Centre County, Pennsylvania researchers in the quest for their family heritage. This site started out in 1996 as part of the PAGenWeb Project and the USGenWeb Project. All are a result of volunteer effort. Website co-coordinators are Bob Baker and Lisa Kerns. If you should have any questions, feel free to contact either.

About Centre County: It was formed on February 13, 1800, as the result of "an act erecting parts of Mifflin, Northumberland, Lycoming and Huntingdon into a separate county" and calling it Centre. The county, of course, was named for its geographic location, but the exact geographical center of the state is in dispute. There was a sign on Greenland's store in Aaronsburg that staked its claim, but other sites around the county do so as well. The Centre County courthouse is at Bellefonte. The county is home to State College and Penn State University as well as Boalsburg, which claims to be the birthplace of Memorial Day. And Centre Hall is home of the Grange Fair which is often billed as the biggest of Centre County's family reunions.
