Query: I am searching for Thurza BARRETT. She was born Oct. 30, 1838 in Centre Co., Pa. or perhaps Va. There is a family story that she was raised on a plantation in Va and moved to Pa when she was 8 years old. She was the youngest of 14 children. She died Feb 4, 1940 in Fox Settlement, Chippewa Co., Wisc. at the age of 101. She married Simon Henry MASON in 1863 and had three children. Simon Henry had married previously and had one child, (William) Curtis MASON, who stayed in PA. Simon and Thurza moved to Fox River, WI in order for Simon Henry, who was a Methodist Minister (possibly not ordained), to minister to the Indians. Her mother was Sarah FRANTONWOOD BARRETT. Sarah was most likely from Virginia. I would be glad to exchange information with anyone concerning these people.

Query: YOUNG I am looking for any info. on my grandfather Franklin C. YOUNG. He was born in Lockport, Pa. in 1877. In the 1890 Centre Co. census of Spring Twp. he is listed as being 13 yrs. old which would have been his age at that time. Does this listing mean he lived by himself? Where were his parents? I also understand that he was employed at the Furnace. What was the furnace? He also worked at the quaries around Bellefonte. I believe they lived at a place called Red Roost. Does that place still exist? In his obit. 18/July/1947 they listed his deceased parents as being Ira Mitchell YOUNG and Anna M. FOX YOUNG. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have reason to believe he was related to my ancestor, George LOSE, who lived in Snyder County in the mid-1800's. Rebecca LOSE, George's daughter, married Philip LEITZEL and is buried in Stover's Cemetery in Haines Two. Another child, William LOSE, resided in Haines Twp. until around 1865 when he moved to Union County. I suspect that the LUCE'S, LOSE'S, AND LOSS' of the Union, Snyder, and Centre county area are all related.

Query: Gathering information on SWITZER family, particularly that of Thomas H. SWITZER, 1818-1879, wife Mary, 1823-1907, of Philipsburg. They had eight children from1847-1852. Only one son Thomas O. was born in 1852. He may have died after 1880. If not he may have married and migrated out of state. Daughters were Mary, Lydia (Lillie), Ella, Kate/Catharine, Anna, Margaret E., Jennie Grace. The daughters did not seem to get married. Perhaps, Mary or Anna did. Thomas H was a retired Methodist Episcopal Minsister and a retired notions dealer in Philipsburg. His daughters were teachers, music teachers, merchants, milliners, and lastly had a book store. Need obituaries from Democatic Watchman, have obit dates. Need help with probate and a land deed, looking for family members that sold out and moved elsewhere (out-of- state?) after Lydia died 1913. There does not appear to be any descendents as no marriages are known of any children. Their memory rests in our hands!! Who were they.??? I research SWISHERS and SWITZERS and it is possible that Thomas may be distantly related, but I can't find out who his parents were - Need help!! Also interested in the origins of Frederick SWISHER who came to Centre in 1820/1830's>
