Hopewell School House (aka- Fetters) appears to have been originally constructed as early as July, 1839, on the property of George Fetters.  From the Charlestown School Board minutes dated, July 20, 1839, "accepted a bid of William Little as contractor to build a new school house at Little's........the building to be the same size and plan as the new school at Fetters."  Quite possibly it was first built as a "pay" school.  The early minutes of the school board also state that Ezekiel Auld was a teacher here in 1839.

Hopewell School House (rebuilt in 1873) is located on Green Lane Road and is proudly owned by Rick and Holly Bernhard and family.

In March, 1846, the Charlestown School Board granted permission to the Methodist Society for them to use the school house for religious purposes.

In 1862, the students of Hopewell School House received new double desks.

At the February 10, 1873 School Board meeting, the directors decide to build a new school house at Hopewell.  In April, they purchase 1/2 acre of ground from George Fetters, for $100.  A contract is awarded to Abraham Titlow, in the amount of $1810., for the construction of the new school house at Hopewell.  It is stated that the new building is to face the public road.  The directors also had maple trees planted on the school grounds.

In September, 1873, the board accepted the new school house at Hopewell from the contractor, Abraham Titlow.

The board approved the use of Hopewell School House by the Pikeland Reformed Church for Sunday School in 1882.

When the Longwood School (aka- Colored School) closed its doors in 1901, those pupils were transported to the Hopewell School for instruction.

Upon the completion of the newly built Charlestown Consolidated School in 1925, the Hopewell School House was closed.  It was sold to a private owner in April, 1926, for the amount of $790.  In the newspaper article regarding the sale of the school house, it was described as a "one room building, situated one mile south of Rapp's Store, bounded by land of Mr. Paul Killinger."
