This Indenture made the Twenty sixth day of March in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and forty seven, Between Charles Hefley and
Margaret his wife, Solomon Artley and Lavina his wife, Joseph Wertman and
Lucy his wife, Sarah Hefley and Catharine Hefley, all of Columbia County in
the State of Pennsylvania of the one part, and Jacob Leiby of Montour
township in the county and stae aforesaid. Whereas the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania by patent or grant under the great seal, bearing date the
twenty seventh day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven
hundred and ninety two for the consideration therein mentioned did grant and
confirm unto Thomas Bowyer and to his heirs and assignees a certain tract of
land, their situate in Mahoning township, Northumberland County, now Montour
township in the County of Columbia aforesaid, by marks and bounds in the
same patent particularly mentioned and described with the appuntenances: To
Hold the said to him his heirs and assigns forever as in and by the said
recited patent enrolled in the Rolls office for the State of Pennsylvania in
Patent Book H? 18 page 342 relation being thereunto had appears: By force
and virtue of which recited patent or of some other good conveyances or
assurances in the law duly had and executed, the said Thomas Bowyer, became
lawfully seized in his demesure? as of fee of and in the said tract of land
with the appuntenances, and, being or thereof seizen, died intestate,
leaving issue seven children to wit: Stephen, John, Daniel, Levi, Thomas,
Hannah the wife of Andrew Todd, and Ann the wife of Abel Evans; and six
grand children to wit: Evan Owen, Thomas Owen, Mordecai Owen, Levi Owen, and
Hugh Owen who were children and legal representatives of Rachel one of the
daughters of the said Thomas Bowyer, who had intermarried with Mordecai Owen
and died before her Father, to whom by the Laws of Pennsylvania relating to
intestate estates the same did descend and come, the children of the said
Rachel being entitle to one eighth part or share. And whereas, the said
Stephen Bowyer, Daniel Bowyer, Levi Bowyer, Thomas Bowyer, Andrew Todd and
Hannah his wife, Abel Evans and Ann his wife, Evan Owen, Thomas Owen, Sarah
Owen, Mordecai Own, Levi Owen and Hugh Owen by several releases and
conveyances under their respective hand and seals, leaving several dates,
and for various valuable considerations, did grant, bargain, sell, release
and confirm unto the said John Bowyer and to his heirs and assigns, all
their several shares, parts, p? and dividends of and in the said above
mentioned and described tract of land with the appuntenances To Hold the
same to him the said John Bowyer his heirs and assigns forever as in and by
the said several releases and conveyances remaining with the property of the
said John Bowyer relation being thereunto had appears. And whereas the said
John Bowyer, by Indenture under his hand and seal, and Rachel his wife under
her hand and seal, bearing date the twenty ninth day of May in the year of
our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and seventeen for the consideration
therein mentioned, did grant and confirm unto George Hefley and his heirs
and assigns a certain part or parcel of the said tract of land above
mentioned and described by marks and bounds in the same Indenture
particularly mentioned containing seventy seven acres and one hundred and
six perches, strid measure he the same more or less. To Hold the same to
him, the said George Hefley his heirs and assigns forever and by the said
recited Indenture relation being thereunto had appears. By ___ and virtue of
which said recite or Indenture or of some other good conveyances and ___in
the land duly had and executed the said George Hefley became in his lifetime
lawfully seized in his demesue as of fee of and in the said tract of land
and appuntenances and beine or thereof seized died intestate, leaving issue
five children to wit: Charles, Lavina, the wife of Solomon Artley, Lucy,
the wife of Joseph Wertman, Sarah and Catharine to whom the same by the laws
of Pennsylvania relating to intestate estatess did descend and come …Now
this indenture witnesseth that the said Charles Hefley and Margaret his
wife, Solomon Artley and Lavina his wife, Joseph Wertman and Lucy his wife,
Sarah Hefley and Catharine Hefley, for and in consideration of the sum of
two thousand eight hundred and seventy three dollars and eighty eight cents
lawful money to them in hand paid by the said Jacob Leiby at and
before …certain tract, piece or parcel of land situate lying and being in
Montour township in the county of Columbia aforesaid, bounded and described
as following to wit Beginning at a chestnut oak corner and running thence by
land now or late the estate of John Bowyer, North twenty one degrees west,
one hundred and thirty five perches to a stone thence by land of John Fry,
south, five and one fourth degrees east, one hundred and twenty three
perches and six tenth to a stone: and thence by other land of the said Jacob
Leiby, north?( seventy seven degrees east, one hundred and fourteen perches
and six tenths to the place of beginning, containing Seventy seven acres and
one hundred and six perches strict ? measure to the same more or less.
Together with all and singular other the houses, outhouses, barns, stables,
ways, woods, waters, water courses, rights, liberties, privileges here ? and
appuntenances whatever belonging or in any wise appertaining:
