I am researching the Yohe family of Columbia 
County.  I just received the pension record for one
Jacob H. Yohe (b. abt Apr 1839).  He enlisted for 9  
months on 26 Feb 1862 at Troy, PA and was put on 
the rolls as a Pvt. in  Company I, 178th Reg't, PA 
Drafted Mil. Inf. On Oct 22, 1862 he was at Camp 
Curtin(?)

He was promoted to Sgt on 1 July 1863 and 
was mustered out at Camp Curtin on July 27, 1863 
age 23.

He then enlisted on 26 Feb 1864 for 3 years,
again at Troy and was enrolled in Co. E, 3rd Reg't PA 
Heavy Artillery.  His age was 24 years & ten months.  
He stipulated that his enlistment should be credited to 
Centre Township. On March 24, 1864 he was at Carlisle 
Barracks, PA  

He was mustered out at Fort Monroe, VA on
9 Nov 1865, married a VA woman and raised a family.
His descendants are still living in Virginia.

Jacob died at home in Portsmouth, VA on 17 Nov.
1904.  His death certificate says that his parents were 
John and Elizabeth Yohe of Columbia Co.  I doubt that
is accurate but am still researching that.  His birthplace
was incorrectly listed on the death certificate as
Allentown, PA.
 
Although I have not yet received their records,
two other Yohe men were in the same Co. I, 178th
Reg't, PA Inf.  They were Stephen (later in Co. M of the 
198th PA Inf.) and Elisha.  I expect that they were brothers 
or perhaps cousins of Jacob.  

Stephen married Mary (Fetterman) on 19 Jun 1851 
in Montour Co., PA.  I think he survived the war and 
returned to Mifflinville as his wife applied for a pension 
from that town.  At the time of her application there were 
two children under 16, Harry and Burt(?.) Mary died 19 
December 1896.

Elisha died at Ft. Monroe on Nov. 22 1864.
