6/8/1957 Oil City Derrick by Naomi Summerville. Thirty six members were present for the May 27 meeting of the Lady Priscilla Rebekah Lodge at which noble grand, Garnet Henry, presided. Following the business meeting, a Memorial service was conducted for the late Bernice Myers, a former member. Several correspondences were read by the secretary with no immediate action being taken. 11/20/1957 Oil City Derrick Sligo Lodge Holds Meet by Naomi Summerville SLIGO - Lady Priscilla Rebekah Lodge held its regular meeting in the IOOF Hall recently, with noble grand Helen McCall presiding. During the business meeting, plans for the annual Christmas party were discussed. The date set for the party was December 9 and each member is asked to bring a guest as in previous years. Sixteen officers and several members were present. Following the meeting, the entertainment committee led in games. Hostesses were Orpha Elliott, Mildred Myers and Helen Weaver. 10/29/1964 Oil City Derrick Officers for New Year are Installed at Meeting of Lady Priscilla Lodge. SLIGO - Officers for the new year were installed at the regular meeting of the Lady Priscilla Rebekah Lodge Monday. Nineteen officers filled their chairs at the meeting attended by approximately 78 members including representatives from the Bruin, West Sunbury, Knox, and West Freedom Lodges. Belle Elliott, district deputy, and her installing staff from the West Freedom Lodge, were in charge of the installation. Officers of the Lady Priscilla Lodge who were installed were: Ruth Rummell, noble grand; Jane Bartley, vice grand; Esther Hoover, recording secretary; Charlotte Mohr, financial secretary; Betty Johnston, treasurer; Beulah Burris, right supporter to the noble grand; Mariam Kuhns, left supporter to the noble grand; Mildred Duncan, color bearer; Alda Jane Lerch, right supporter to the vice grand; Gladys Myers, left supporter to the vice grand. Carrie Bracken, chaplain; Janet Switzer, outside guardian, Vivian Finotti, inside guardian; Valjean Shook, warden; Doris Craig, conductor; Ila Meier, musician; and Bertha Benn, trustee. During a short recess retiring officers paid tribute to Dorothy Hoover, past noble grand and presented her with a gift. Noble Grand, Ruth Rummel, named the following committees: Ways and Means, Jane Bartley, Miriam Kuhns, Charlene Myers and Allene Lerch; Entertainment, Janet Bonnett, Lois Best, Charlotte Mohr and Madelyn Sherman; Visiting, Hazel Shook, Gladys Myers, and Bertha Benn; Flowers and Gifts, Beulah Burris, Garnet Henry and Miriam Shook. During the business meeting, members voted to give a donation to the Odd Fellows Home at Meadville for their annual "Donation Day" Nov. 14. 2/5/1969 Derrick — LODGE PLANS FOR 150th YEAR - SLIGO - The Lady Priscilla Rebekah Lodge of Sligo made plans at a recent meeting in the IOOF Hall to observe the 150th anniversary year of the founding of Odd Fellowship. Sixteen officers and a total of 29 attended the meeting. A proclamation from the Sovereign Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania was read concerning the dates to be recognized by the lodge this year in keeping with the anniversary celebration. A souvenir medallion was sent out to each lodge to commerate [sic] this important year. A thank-you note from Mrs. Dorothy Hoover, who is at home following surgery in Allegheny General Hospital was read. Lunch committee for the Feb. 10 meeting will be Mrs. Valjean Shook, Mrs. Elizabeth Silvis and Mrs. Hazel Shook. The door prize was won by Mrs. Valjean Shook. Transcribed by Pamela Myers-Grewell.
6/16/1969 Sligo Lodge to Donate to Project SLIGO - At the meeting of the Lady Priscilla Rebekah Lodge, it was decided to donate to the "Mile of Pennies" project. This is an annual project of the Rebekahs and is for the Rebekah Home in Pittsburgh. There were 17 officers and 21 members present at the meeting, with one visitor, Mrs. Hanley, of the Signal Lodge in Swissville. The next meeting is to be the "Birthday Month" meeting. All those with birthdays in April, May, and June will be honored and those not having a birthday during those months are to take a covered dish for the luncheon. The luncheon committee for the June 23 meeting is Mrs. Kathryn Hartle, Mrs. Donna Moyer and Mrs. Helen McCall. The door prize was award to Mrs. Lula Meier, followed by a silent auction. 9/29/1969 Lodge Women Fete Members on Birthdays SLIGO - The members of the Lady Priscilla Rebekah Lodge enjoyed a covered dish dinner at their regular meeting which honored members having birthdays during the past three months. A total of 29 members which included 12 officers attended the meeting. Election of officers was held for the coming year and installation of the new officers will be held on the regular meeting night, Friday, October 13. The installation will be conducted by District Deputy Grace Weckerly and her staff the West Freedom Lodge. All officers, both outgoing and incoming are to wear white. The meeting will begin at 8 p.m. The door prize for the evening was awarded to Mrs. Beulah Burris. Appointed to the lunch committee for the October 13 meeting were Mrs. Margie McCall, Mrs. Jody Snyder, Mrs. Alice Culbertson, Mrs. Connie McDowell, Mrs. Betty Johnston and Mrs. Mary Fagley. 11/3/1969 Derrick - 19 Officers Attend Meeting of Lodge SLIGO - Warden Shirley Phillips opened the meeting of the Lady Priscilla Rebekah Lodge. Nineteen officers with a total of 31 members were in attendance. Clair Bracken was reported home from the Ktitanning Hospital and Mrs. Marti Varner and baby daughter were reported in the Brookville Hospital. Mrs. Rosali Shirey, Mrs. Dorothy Cowalch and Mrs. Judy Reichart were named as hostesses for the meeting to be held November 10. Door prize was awarded to Mrs. Connie Graham. Degree practice was held after the meeting; the next degree practice will be held at 7:30 p.m. today in the IOOF Hall.
11/17/1969 Lodge Slates Holiday Party SLIGO - Plans were made by the Lady Priscilla Rebekah Lodge of Sligo to hold its annual Christmas party on December 8 with the usual $1.00 gift exchange. The party will be a tureen dinner. Sixteen officers were present with a total of 33 in attendance as the noble grand declared lodge open. The next meeting will be initiation of new members . Officers and members of the degree team are requested to wear white gloves. The lunch committee for the next meeting is Barbara Summerville, Connie Graham, and Sally Myers. 12/31/1969 Vice Grand Presides at Lodge Meeting — SLIGO - Vice Grand Mrs. Alda Jane Lerch presided at the meeting of the Sligo Lady Priscilla Rebekah Lodge with nine members attending. A birthday party will be held at the January 12 meeting for members having birthdays in October, November, and December. Members not having birthdays in these months are to take a covered dish. Monday, January 19, 1970 The Derrick—DISTRICT MEETING SLATED FOR APRIL SLIGO - Fourteen officers and a total attendance of 24 members were present for the meeting of Lady Priscilla Rebekah Lodge. It was announced that the Lodge will have the District meeting on April 13, which will include both afternoon and evening meetings and also the banquet. It was announced that Mrs. Blanche Murray had fallen and broken a bone and was recuperating at home. The lunch committee for the January 26 meeting will be Mrs. Dorothy Krauss, Mrs. Ruth Rummell, and Mrs. Clara Eaker. The birthday party was enjoyed following lodge and honored six members. 7/6/1970 Lodge Has Birthday Month SLIGO - The Lady Priscilla Rebekah Lodge celebrated birthday month at their last meeting. Members with birthdays during the months of April, May, and June were honored. Seventeen officers with a total of 25 members were present. A letter was read announcing the ninth annual Chicken Barbecue to be held at 11 a.m. July 18 at the Odd Fellows Home in Meadville. Tickets can be purchased from any of the Odd Fellows or Rebekahs at a cost of $1.50 for adults and $1.00 for children. Mrs. Janet Switzer and Mrs. Alda Jane Lerch were appointed to represent the Rebekahs at the regular meetings of the Sligo Area Recreation Board. Mrs. Don Steiner was appointed as the alternate. 7/27/1970 Oil City Derrick Lady Rebekahs of Sligo Area Meet Recently SLIGO - Mrs. Gertrude Shook, noble grand of the Sligo Lady Priscilla Rebekah Lodge, conducted the recent meeting which was attended by 10 officers and 21 members. A note was read from Mrs. Ada Handley, a member of the lodge, stating that she and the Bauer family had arrived at their new home in Terre Haute, Ind. Another letter was read from Annabell Putt, the new president of the Rebekah Assembly, expressing her thanks to the lodges of the assembly. Mrs. Helen McCall expressed her thanks for the planter and cards sent to her mother, Mrs. Blanche Murray, who is now at home recuperating after her recent hospitalization. 9/1/1970 Rebekah Lodge Receives Mail SLIGO - A letter was received by the Lady Priscilla Rebekah Lodge revealing the ** annual meeting to be held at the IOOF Children's Home in Meadville on September 12 beginning at 10 a.m. A letter was also received from the Rebekah Home in Pittsburgh thanking members of the lodge for their contribution to the home picnic held recently. The bakeless bake sale held at the last meeting was deemed successful by the lodge. Reported on the sick list was Mrs. Hazel Shook and an announcement was made of the birth of a son to Mrs. Margie Salvo. Mrs. Kathryn Ann Hartle was door prize winner. Lunch committee for the September 14 meeting will include Mrs. Miriam Shook, Mrs. Pat Hawk and Mrs. Betty Johnson. Officers will be nominated at this meeting. Transcribed by Pamela Myers-Grewell.
9/28/1970 Derrick - Lodge Plans Dinner Meeting SLIGO - It was announced at the meeting of the Lady Priscilla Rebekah Lodge that there would be a meeting of the Odd Fellows Association on October 10, at the Wayside Inn at Grove City. A letter was also read from Ada Kondley, a member of Lodge who has moved to Terre Haute, Ind. Nominations were made for new officers for the coming year. Appointed to the lunch committee for the September 28 meeting were Mrs. Juanita Walls, Mrs. Ruth Myers and Mrs. Ruth Sherman. This will be the meeting for members celebrating birthdays in July, August, and September. Any member not having a birthday in this month is requested to bring a covered dish. Eleven officers and a total of 21 members attended the meeting. |
