MILFORD, VIOLA MAE (WATTS) — Viola Mae Milford, 88, of Clearview Nursing Home, Sligo, formerly of Emlenton, passed away at 10:55 a.m., Friday, June 13, 2008. Born July 23, 1919, in Clarion County, she was the daughter of Roy Watts and Florence Silverthorne Watts. Mrs. Milford was educated in the Perryville Public Schools, and was affiliated with the Fellowship Baptist Church of Emlenton. Mrs. Milford was married to Arthur Milford, and he survives. Mrs. Milford enjoyed flowers and gardening. She also loved spending time outside. She is survived by her husband; one son, David E. Milford of Parker; and two brothers, Ernie Watts and Richard Watts. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Jeanett Milford, Vernetta Watts, Jean Byers; and one brother, Elno Watts. There will be no public visitation. The Larry E. MILLER, AGNES MAE (GOUGHLER) — Agnes Mae Miller, 91, of Knox, formerly of Venus, died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, in Clarview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center near Sligo. Born Sept. 19, 1910, in St. Petersburg, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary Earley Goughler. She was a 1931 graduate of Oil City High School. Mrs. Miller was employed by the Soil Conservation Service in Clarion, retiring in 1974. While living in Venus, Mrs. Miller was a very active member of the Venus Evangelical Church where she taught adult Sunday school and belonged to the Sew & Sews who made quilts and lap robes for Community Services and nursing homes. After moving to Knox in 1987, Mrs. Miller joined the Faith Church of the Nazarene in Kossuth where she was active as her health allowed. Mrs. Miller served for several years with the Venango County 4-H. She enjoyed doing for others and serving the Lord. Her hobbies include caning chairs, making quilt tops and lap robes and traveling. Mrs. Miller was married Sept. 1, 1934, to Eugene W. Miller, who died Aug. 21, 1976. Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Freda and Vaughn Gruber of Knox; a son, Dr. Keith O. Miller of Oskaloosa, Iowa; four grandchildren, Marilyn DeDionisio of Erie, Lisa Brown of San Antonio, Texas, David Miller of Silverdale, Wash., and Kristin Miller of Pittsburgh; and five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Adam and Lauren DeDionisio and Craig and Kayleigh Miller. She also is survived by a sister, Helen Goodman of Oil City; a brother and his wife, Donald and Mary Goughler of Rocky Grove; one niece; and six nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur Goughler, Lester Goughler and Ralph Goughler; two sisters, Hazel Foust and Ruth Hazlett; a niece, Mary Acquaviva; and a nephew, Charles Perry. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the David C. McEntire Funeral Home in Knox. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Richard Jones, pastor of the Faith Church of the Nazarene in Kossuth, officiating. Interment will follow in Starr Cemetery at Knox RD 1. MILLER, CLARA C. (REARIGH) — Clara C. Miller, 86, formerly of Kellersburg, died Tuesday morning in Clarion Hospital. She had been residing at Clarview Rest Home for the last two years. Born February 4, 1896, in Clarion County, she was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Champion Rearigh. She married Harry E. Miller on June 16, 1915. He preceded her in death September 7, 1946. Mrs. Miller was affiliated with the Methodist Church of Kellersburg and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the American Legion. Surviving are: three sons, Arnold Miller of Bruin, Irwin Miller of New Bethlehem, and Delwin Miller of Florence, Ariz.; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Doris) Caldwell of Templeton; 22 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are: a brother, William Rearight; and two sisters, Veotta Vogle of Sligo and Kathryn Rearigh of Oil City.  In addition to her husband, Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.  Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Thursday at the John R. Mateer Funeral Home in New Bethlehem. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm Friday in the funeral home with Rev. Paul Hetrick and Rev. J.C. Himes officiating.  Interment will be in Kellersburg Methodist Cemetery.

 

MILLER, CONNELL HUTCHISON — Dr. Connell Hutchison Miller died Monday at his home in Sligo. Born in Sligo July 21, 1907, his parents were Dr. John B. Miller and May Leone Hutchison Miller. He was married March 14, 1941, to Nellie Pearl Stewart. Surviving are his wife and six cousins. Burial will be in the Sligo cemetery. MILLER, DORIS L. -- Doris L. Miller, 84, of Transfer, formerly of Sligo, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in Sharon Regional Hospital, Sharon. Born July 31, 1915, in Elnora, she was a daughter of Daniel B. and Lula FLACK SCADDEN DANIELSON. She was a 1933 graduate of Sligo High School. Mrs. Miller was a lifelong member of the Sligo Nazarene Church and served on the church board for approximately 25 years. She also taught Sunday school and served as Sunday school treasurer and missionary treasurer. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Miller was married in Putneyville March 8, 1939, to Edward R. Miller, who died Jan. 20, 1987. Surviving are three sons, Ira Miller of Erie, Alex Miller and his wife, Julie, of Transfer and Kerry Miller and his wife, Jill, of Tyrone; three granddaughters, Amy CHAPMAN, Nicole Miller and Kellyn Miller; one grandson, Bryan Edward Miller; and two great-granddaughters, Alexis and Allison Chapman. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. MILLER, EVELYN J. Evelyn J. "Tootie" Miller, 70, of Washington Street, Strattanville, died at 4:50 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Clarion Hospital. Born April 29, 1932, in Strattanville, she was a daughter of Grace Corbet Kisner. Mrs. Miller was a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, crafts and her family. She was married Sept. 9, 1949, to Richard A. Miller, who survives. Also surviving are her mother, Grace Corbet Kisner of Vail, Ariz.; four daughters, Mrs. Carter (Betty) Henry of Strattanville, Mrs. James (Kathy) Oakes of Shippenville, Mrs. Larry (Sandy) Shook of Sligo and Carol Ann Miller of Strattanville; and a son, Donald A. Miller of Pittsburgh. Survivors also include a brother, Don Kisner of Vail, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert "Spade" Miller on Jan. 1, 1997; and her step-father, Raymond Kisner. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home of Clarion and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church of Clarion. MILLER, J.B. — Mr. J.B. Miller of Sligo, so long and favorably known as one of the best citizens of Clarion County, and who was widely known as a first class citizen, died at his home Sunday, January 25, 1914, at 3 o'clock a.m. from an attack of uraemia. The deceased has passed more than the allotted span of life, being born in Chester county, Pa. in 1838, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Miller. He spent about 33 years of his life in Sligo and previous to that had resided in Curllsville for some time. He was united in marriage with Miss Sarah Mast, who is now left to mourn the loss of her life partner. Two sons, Dr. J.B. Miller and William Miller, of Sligo, also survive, and two children preceded him in death. He is also survived by four sisters and two brothers. Mr. Miller was a man of excellent business ability, and he served his day and generation well, contributing tot he general welfare and wealth of the community. He was a devoted member of the Presbyterian church. The funeral services were held on Tuesday from his home the services being conducted by Rev. McLeod assisted by Rev. Dr. McCurdy, of Curllsville. MILLER, NETTIE PEARL (STEWART) — Mrs. Nettie S. Miller, 51, widow of Dr. Connell H. Miller, was found dead by a relative Thursday afternoon in her home in Sligo.   The time of death was set at approximately 10 a.m. Thursday.   Her death was ruled due to natural causes.   She was born in Toby Township, Clarion County, December 16, 1912, a daughter of M.V. O. and Margaret Rimer Stewart.   She and Dr. Miller were married in 1941.   He died in September 1963.   Mrs. Miller was a member of the Sligo Presbyterian Church and the Dorcas Class of the Church.   She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Sligo Post of the American Legion, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Sligo Fire Department, the Auxiliary to the American Medical Association and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.   She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Margaret Stewart of Sligo; three sisters, Mrs. Glenn (Lydia) Slaughenhoupt of Sligo RD, Mrs. Thomas (Eleanore) Leachman of El Paso, Texas, and Mrs. James (Nancy) Chandler of Rimersburg RD, and two brothers, Alan Stewart of Rimersburg RD and James Stewart of Sligo.   Friends may call at the Hawk Funeral Home, Sligo, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.   Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 3 p.m. Sunday with Rev. MILLER, SARAH K. (McKEE) — Mrs. S. Miller of Clintonville Dies Thursday — CLINTONVILLE - Mrs. Sara K. Miller, 81, of Emlenton Street died at 11:45 p.m. Thursday at Webster Convalescent Home, Grove City, following a long illness. Mrs. Miller was a former resident of Tionesta and Parker. She was born Sept. 5, 1883 in Monroe Township, Clarion County, a daughter of Hugh P. and R. Anne Craig McKee. She taught school in Clarion County for several years before attending nurses school in Pittsburgh. She was graduated from the West Penn Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1915. Mrs. Miller worked in the nursing profession until she retired.  She spent her last years with her nephew and his wife, the Rev. and Mrs. Edward M. McKee, Clintonville. She was a member of the Sligo Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Sligo Chapter 289 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Miller was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to Rev. McKee, she is survived by several nieces and nephews. MILNER, ANNA MAE (HENRY)  CLARION - Mrs. Ann H. Milner, 69, of Erie died at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday in Hamot Hospital, Erie. Mrs. Milner was born   April 4, 1895 in Clarion County, a daughter of George A. and Tillie Cochranton Henry. She was a housewife and a member of the First Church of God, first in Clarion and later in Erie. She was married to Vance A. Milner and he died in 1947. She is survived by a son, Henry D. Milner of Erie; a stepson, Irvin Vance Milner; two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Goldie) Servey of Sligo RD and Mrs. Ida George of Clarion and two brothers, Woods Henry of New Kensington and Marion Henry.   Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Elsie Henry of Sligo and Mrs. Alice Henry and five grandchildren. Removal was made to the Goble Funeral Home where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.   Services will be held in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. MINICH, ANNA ELIZABETH (STOVER) Anna Elizabeth Minich, 93, of Route 861, Rimersburg, Porter Township, Clarion County, died at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, in Clarview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, following an illness. Born May 17, 1910, in Porter Township in the present Nair House, she was the daughter of Edward and Maude Potter Stover. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family of 12 children. Mrs. Minich attended the Jacks one-room school across the road from her home in Leatherwood near New Bethlehem. She was married in the Nair House Nov. 4, 1927, to Maben R. Minich, who died June 3, 1972. Mrs. Minich and her husband enjoyed operating the Minich Farm in Porter Township, Clarion County. She was known for her "green thumb" and started the large milk herd that the family owns today with the heifer calf given to her by her father. She was a member of the Leatherwood Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and elder. Mrs. Minich was a charter member of the Oakwood Presbyterian Church and took great pride in leading the apple butter crew as a yearly fund-raiser for the church. Since her retirement, the apple butter making event has not been a part of the fund-raising activities of the church. She was a devoted homemaker, caring for her family as well as many relatives. Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, June R. and Luther Shreckengost of Fairmount City and Gay M. and William H. Eustice of Fryburg; two sons, Kermit M. Minich and wife, Edna, of Route 861 Rimersburg, and Max M. Minich of Brooksville, Fla.; 15 grandchildren, Larry Shreckengost and wife, Linda, of DuBois, Janice Martz and husband, Gene, of Ringgold, Joy McMillen and husband, William, of Seneca, Lyle Shreckengost and wife, Patricia, of Mayport, Ernest W. Switzer of Virginia, Kenneth B. Switzer and wife, Lisa, of Creekside, Tammy L. Kriebel, Kermit M. Minich II, Kyle M. Minich and wife, Kelly, and Kale M. Minich, all of Rimersburg, Mason E. Minich of New Mexico, Lisa L. Bizzaro and husband, Tim, of Port Allegheny, William R. Eustice and wife, Holly, of Fortville, Ind., Donald J. Eustice and LaDonna of Orchard Park, N.Y., and Ronald A. Eustice and wife, Paula, of Clarion; 27 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Minich was preceded in death by seven brothers, James, John, Ernest, Robert, Elmer and Quentin Stover and an infant brother who died at birth; and four sisters, Gladys, Helen and Eleanor Stover, who died during the Great Flu Epidemic of 1917-18, and Mary Alice Kemp, who died in April 2001. MINNICH, JAMES LESLIE—J.L. Minnich of Sligo Dies Thursday—  SLIGO - James Leslie Minnich, 88, of Sligo RD2, died Thursday morning in Clarion Hospital. He was born April 25, 1884, in New Bethlehem, the son of Charles and Mary Magness Minnich. On Oct. 13, 1913, he married the former Birdena Estella Neely who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Virgil C. of Pittsburgh, Loyd of New Bethlehem, and Elwin; one daughter, Mrs. Marlon (Julia) Custer of Rimersburg RD1; one brother, Fred Minnich of Emlenton; 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were one son, Charles; one grandson, three brothers and three sisters. Mr. Minnich had made his home in Piney Township for the last 60 years where he had attended the Church of God. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Saturday at the Hawk Funeral Home in Sligo where services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. Rev. Mason R. MINNICK, JOHN ARTHUR — John Minnick of Curllsville Dies at Home - SLIGO - John Arthur Minnick, 60, died Saturday at his home in Curllsville. Born in Keystone, Elk County, September 18, 1899, he was the son of Charles and Mary Magness Minnick. He was married December 25, 1918, to the former Grace Irene Anthony, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Wilmer (Helen) Blouser, Franklin RD2 and Mrs. Leo (Louise) Gathers, Sligo; three grandchildren and one great-grandson, two brothers, Fred Minnick of Emlenton RD, and James Minnick, Sligo RD. One son, Howard, three sisters, and two brothers preceded him in death. Mr. Minnick was a member of the United Church of Christ of Curllsville. Services will be held at 2 pm today in the Hawk Funeral Home, Sligo, with Rev. Paul E. MINNICK, GRACE IRENE (ANTHONY) — Mrs. Minnick Dies of Heart Attack —  SLIGO - Mrs. Grace Irene Minnick, 71, of Curllsville, widow of John Arthur Minnick, died at 3 p.m. Friday while cleaning in the United Church of Christ at Curllsville. Death was due to a heart attack. Born May 29, 1900, in Porter Township, Clarion County, she was a daughter of Emma Womeldorf Anthony.   She was married December 25, 1918 to John Arthur Minnick. He died January 4, 1968. Mrs. Minnick was a member of the Untied Church of Christ at Curllsville and the Ladies Guild of the church. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Wilmer (Helen) Blauser of Franklin RD2 and Mrs. Leo (Louise) Gathers of Sligo, and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A son, Howard, and one brother, Darrel, are deceased. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Hawk Funeral Home in Sligo, with Rev. Paul Miller, pastor of the United Church of Christ in Curllsville officiating. Interment will be in the Churchville Cemetery [Monday, 17 Jan 1972 Oil City Derrick].
