MUIR, ANNA JEAN — Anna Jean "Nan" Muir, 64, of Cameron Park, Calif., died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, in Folsom, Calif. Her husband, John Muir, is a former Sligo resident. Mrs. Muir was a native of Glasborough, N.J., and enjoyed arts and crafts, shopping and being a grandmother. She enjoyed cooking for the homeless in the Upper Room in Placerville, Calif. Mrs. Muir was an active member of the Foothills United Methodist Church in Rescue, Calif. She was a former Girl Scout leader. Mrs. Muir was married to John Muir, who survives. In recent years, she and her husband cherished their time traveling the country by motorhome, along with her faithful cat companion, Snoopy. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two daughters and their spouses, Debra and Rhett Arbuckle of San Ramon, Calif., and Jacqueline and Trent de Montel of Folsom, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Jessica and Joseph de Montel. She also is survived by a brother, Henry Francis Powell Jr. of Wright City, Mo.; her mother-in-law, Pauline Muir of Sligo; and her husband's brother, Gale Muir and his wife, Alice, of Shippenville. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Green Valley Mortuary, Green Valley and Bass Lake roads, Cameron Park, Calif. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Foothills United Methodist Church. Private interment will be in Green Valley Cemetery, Cameron Park. MUIR, RONALD McDONALD — Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Thursday in the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo for Ronald McDonald (Red) Muir, 80, of Sligo, who died Sunday in his home. Rev. Tom Jones, pastor of the Sligo United Methodist Church and Rev. Brian Clark, pastor of the Sligo Presbyterian Church, will co-officiate. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm today and Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Sligo Cemetery. Mr. Muir was born November 16, 1912 in Brockway, a son of the late John Robert Muir and Elain McMinn Muir. He married Pauline Over on April 7, 1934. She survives.  Mr. Muir was retired from Corner Water Supply and Services and worked for the Claude Rhea Motel, both in Marianne. He was manager of the A&P grocery store and worked for Pennzoil Distribution, both in Sligo.  He was a charter member of the Sligo Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as past fire chief. He was one of the original members of the fireman's band. Mr. Muir was a former member of the Sligo School Board. His hobbies included citizens band radios and auction sales. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, R. Gale Muir of Shippenville and John Muir of San Jose, Calif.; a daughter, Janet Muir, of McKeesport, and two granddaughters. MURPHY, LARRY ZANE — Larry Zane Murphy, 59, of Cherry Run Street, Rimersburg, died at 10:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in Clarview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, following a brief illness. Born June 29, 1943, in Rimersburg, he was the son of Millicent I. Lerch Murphy of Shippenville and the late Herbert C. Murphy. He was a 1960 graduate of Madison High School, Madison, Wis. Mr. Murphy served three years in the U.S. Army. He had been employed as a bulldozer operator by C&K Coal Co., instructed welding at Clarion Vo-Tech and was a repairman at the Kirby Service Department, Shippenville. Mr. Murphy was affiliated with Baker Street Church of God, Rimersburg. He was a member of Clarion Lodge No. 277, F&AM, The Consistory, Valley of Coudersport and the Zem Zem Shrine in Erie. Mr. Murphy was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and his family. He first was married in Rimersburg Aug. 16, 1969, to Joanne G. Geist, who died Aug. 19, 1982. He then was married in Rimersburg Dec. 15, 1989, to Marsha K. Carr, who survives. Also surviving are two sons and their wives, James A. and April Carr of Rimersburg and Scott L. and Cindie Carr of Mount Jackson, Va.; a daughter, Michele A. Carr and friend, Mark, of Hampton, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Misty Marsh and husband, Virgil, Jared S. Carr and Amanda D. Carr, all of Rimersburg, Hanah R. Carr, Angel L. Rummel and Adam K. Rummel, all of Mount Jackson, Va., Billy Carr of Elkhorn, Ky., and Holly Ann Vecchio, Heather N. Vecchio and Cody W. Carr, all of Hampton, Va.; and two great-grandsons, Clayton and Mitchell Marsh, both of Rimersburg. He also is survived by his mother, Millicent Murphy of Shippenville; his mother-in-law, Frances Bish of Rimersburg; three sisters and their spouses, Cathy and Charles Wingard of Shippenville, Tina and David Rodgers of Knox and Doris and Charles Morris of Monroe, Ga.; a brother-in-law, Richard Bish and wife, Pam, of Tionesta; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Murphy, Jan. 24, 1999. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home, Rimersburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. William Todd, interim pastor of Baker Street Church of God, Rimersburg, officiating. Interment will follow in Rimersburg Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by members of the Rimersburg American Legion and the VFW Ceremonial Squad.

 

MURRAY, BLANCHE IDA — SLIGO –  Mrs. Blanche Ida Murray, 65, of Sligo, wife of Carlton Murray, died at 7:35 pm Monday in Oil City hospital. She was born February 15, 1907, Monroe Township, a daughter of Thomas M. and Ella Magness Henry. She was married November 19, 1927 to Carlton Murray, who survives. Mrs. Murray was a member of the Sligo Presbyterian Church. Surviving along with her husband are a daughter, Mrs. Wesley (Helen) McCall of Perryville; a son Larry Murray of Falls Church, Va.; three grandchildren; a brother Walter Henry of Pittsburgh, and four sisters, Mrs. Velvie Dunkle of Sligo, Mrs. Stella Bracken of Reynoldsville, Mrs. Lottie Mercer of Clarion and Mrs. Edward (Dorothy) Mercer of Sligo RD.   An infant daughter and two sisters are deceased. The family will receive friends at the Hawk Funeral home in Sligo from 4 to 9 pm today.   Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Thursday in the funeral home with Rev. Frank Tulak, pastor of the Callensburg United Methodist Church, officiating, assisted by Rev. Boyd Bell, pastor of the Sligo Presbyterian Church. MURRAY, HAZEL (SOMERVILLE) — Hazel Murray, 98, formerly of Sligo, a resident of the Clarview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, died Monday evening, June 14, 2004, in the Clarview facility. The Varner Funeral Home in Sligo is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Thursday in the Derrick.

     Hazel Murray, 98, formerly of Sligo, a resident of Clarview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, died at 4 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2004, in the Clarview facility. Born Sept. 30, 1905, in Toby Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of Clyde and Linnie Smith Somerville. Mrs. Murray was a member of New Athens Church of God of Prophecy near Rimersburg. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting and embroidery. Mrs. Murray was married to John B. Murray, who died in 1971. Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Geraldine and David Smith of Friday Harbor, Wash.; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by five sisters, Eleanor Burns of Sligo, Naomi Fair of Ninevah, Georgia Myers of Rimersburg, and Judy Liberati and Priscilla Cain, both of Aliquippa; and three brothers, Arnold Somerville of Gurley, Ala., Chad Somerville of Ligonier and Jimmie Somerville of Aliquippa. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by a son, Jack Murray; and three sisters, Ida Mae Bobbert, Nellie Wyman and Ruth Burns Rowe. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Leonard Goughler, pastor of New Athens Church of God of Prophecy, officiating. Interment will follow in Sligo Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations be made to a charity of one's choice. MURRAY, JESSICA AUDREY Jessica Audrey Murray, 22, of Sligo, died unexpectedly of natural causes at her home Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006. She shared her birthday, Feb. 14, with her grandfather, Laird Reed, who also died the same day. Ms. Murray was the daughter of Patrick and Janis Reed Murray. She loved her horse, Bud, and her dog, Booger. She was known for adopting animals to nurse back to health. Ms. Murray worked at the Cook Forest Scenic Trail Ride in the summer. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her fiancé, Jeff Phillips of Knox; two sisters, Jenifer Rinker and fiance, Keegan Shaffer, of Knox and Melisa Murray of Sligo; two nieces, Michelle Decker and Katrina Phillips; a nephew, Skyler Shaffer; her maternal grandmother, Barbara Reed of Knox; her paternal grandmother, Audrey Murray of Falls Creek; an aunt, Debra Barron; uncles Brian, Craig and Lance Reed and their spouses; and 10 cousins. MURRAY, LAVINA EMMA (KIFER) —  CLARION —  Mrs. Lavina Emma Murray, 92, widow of the late John Murray, died at 9:30 p.m. May 14 in the home of Mrs. Melvin Fogley, Clarion.   She was born November 25, 1865 the daughter of John Kifer and Jane Henry Kifer. On October 16, 1889 she married John Murray who preceded her in death in 1948. She was a life-long resident of Perry Township, Clarion and a member of the Presbyterian Church. Survivors include five sons; John, of Reidsburg; Carlton, Sligo; Charles, Vandergrift; Glenn, Kennerdell; Paul, Sligo RD. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. The body was removed to the Hawk Funeral Home where services will be read al 2 p.m. Saturday by Rev. MURRAY, WILLIAM ELLIS — W. Ellis Murray, 68, Dies of Heart Attack - SLIGO - William Ellis Murray, 68, of Rimersburg RD2, an employee of C&K Coal Co., died of a heart attack around 9 p.m. Sunday while en route to work. He was alone in his car and pulled off the road into the driveway of his sister's home at Sligo RD. He was found dead in the car after a search was launched when he failed to report to work. Mr. Murray was born in Limestone Township, Clarion County, November 28, 1903, a son of William and Mary Slater Murray. He was married to the former Ada Viola Ashbaugh in 1930. She survives along with four sons, William D. Murray of Rimersburg, James T. Murray of Clarion, Dennis L. Murray of Sharon and Larry Murray at home; three daughters, Mrs. Chester (Betty) Mortimer of Rimersburg, Mrs. Peggy Hilliard of Knox and Sally Murray of State College; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Guy Murray of Strobleton, and five sisters, Mr. J.C. (Mary) Botzer of Sligo RD, Mrs. Louise Callen, Mrs. Pearl Smith, Mrs. Ella Frampton and Mrs. Ruth Sterrett, all of Clarion. A sister, Catherine, is deceased.  The family will receive friends at the Hawk Funeral Home in Sligo from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Rev. William Heston, pastor of the Curllsville United Methodist Church, officiating. MUSSER, MERLE EDWARD — Merle Edward Musser died Dec. 20, 1933, at the Brookville hospital, aged 24 years. Merle had undergone an operation for appendicitis. He stood the operation very well, but typhoid fever developed and caused his death. Deceased was a son of Joseph and Lillie (Himes) Musser and was born at Leisure Run on Feb. 16, 1909. He leaves to mourn their loss his parents and two brothers and one sister, namely, Clarence of Pittsburgh, and Irene and Junior at home. One sister and one brother preceded him in death. Funeral services in his memory were held at the home on Dec. 23, and were conducted by Rev. W.E. Davis; after which interment under the direction of S.F. Reitz was made in the New Bethlehem cemetery.

MUSSER, WILLIAM DONALD — William D. Musser —  A funeral service for William Donald Musser, who died at his home in Porter Township at 1 a.m., Tuesday, July 13, 1943, will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Musser, of the Musser Fruit Farm.  Dr. J. Wallace Fraser will have charge of the service. Interment will be made in the New Bethlehem cemetery under the direction of the Mateer Funeral Home.  Mr. Musser was born October 22, 1899, at the Musser farm home. His parents were William and Tirzah Jack Musser. On October 24, 1922, he was married to Mabel Wilhelm. One child died in infancy. Mr. Musser is survived by his parents, his wife, two brothers, George Musser, Kittanning R.4 and Arthur, New Bethlehem R.3, and two sisters, Mrs. Elwin Brown, New Bethlehem, R.2, and Mrs. Jas. Switzer, New Bethlehem, R.4. Mr. Musser and his wife lived for some years on the McClure farm, near Starburg.  (view image)
