PAGLIARI, — Man Killed in Accident at Strip Mine — Rimersburg Man Victim at C-K Site — CLARION - A Clarion County man was killed yesterday when the drag-line machine he was in dropped over a 25-foot "high wall" at a strip-mine site near Sligo. Fred J. Pagliari, 56, of 427 N. Main St., Rimersburg, an employe of C & K Coal Co. of Clarion, was pronounced dead of a crushed chest by Robert V. Burns of Clarion. It took rescue workers more than three hours to extricate Pagliari's body, pinned in the cab of the 2400 Lima drag-line machine, which had a boom approximately 140 feet long. The body was removed last evening. It could not immediately be determined what caused the machine to plunge over the wall. Charles Speelman, a mine inspector, said he will conduct an investigation this morning to determine the cause. Burns also is expected to complete his investigation today. It was reported that there had been some blasting done at the mine site, off Route 368, and that this may have loosened the wall. A report was not confirmed, however, by officials. Another employe of C & K Coal was working with Pagliari at the time of the accident, but his name could not immediately be obtained. The other worker also was on the machine, but managed to jump as it began to fall. He grabbed onto the wall and climbed to safety. Pagliari's body was removed to the J.D. Miller Funeral Home in Rimersburg, where friends may call after 7 p.m. today. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today. PLATT, WILLIAM GILMORE — With great sorrow we report the death of Wm. G. Platt, former County Commissioner of Clarion County which occurred at his home in Clarion Wednesday evening at an early hour. A notice will be prepared for our next issue. His funeral services will be conducted at his late home Saturday afternoon April 6th, at 2 o'clock. Everybody who knew William G. Platt, former County Commissioner of Clarion County, and there were hosts of people who did know him, were touched with a feeling of sorrow when the announcement was made that he had passed away at his home in Clarion, Wednesday, April 3, 1929. Mr. Platt's sickness really began about the first of February, and he stopped work and went to bed, trying to get back his old vigor and energy. At that time no pronounced disease seemed to be attacking him, and it was thought it was a sort of general debility that would pass away with care and treatment. That would possibly have been the case, but on the 10th of February he suffered a stroke of paralysis, which prostrated him and left him in a very helpless condition, but his mind at times was clear and active. He did not respond to treatment as time went on, and it was only natural that a recurrence of his affliction should carry him off. When the end came his spirit just quietly passed out of earthly conditions to the restful care of the Heavenly Father. William Gilmore Platt was born near Helen Furnace on May 13, 1860. He was the son of Alexander Platt, who enlisted in the Civil War on February 22. 1802, in Company H, 103rd Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers, and went into service before his son William was two years old, and never came back. He was wounded and died at White Oak Swamp, Virginia, date unknown. The deceased was born and reared in Clarion County and spent his entire life here, business only taking him away for brief periods. When he grew to young manhood he engaged in the lumbering business and followed that as long as it was a business in our county. He also combined with that the farming business-farming in the summer and working in the woods in the winter. The County Commissioners elected him as Superintendent of the County Home for several years, in which position he gave most excellent and satisfactory service with the splendid help of his good wife as Matron of the Home. Mr. Platt was then elected as County Commissioner himself and gave to the people of the county a conscientious, faithful and progressive service, retiring with honor to himself and credit to the county. Mr. Platt was a man of the most upright integrity and unimpeachable honesty. He always took pride in dealing with his fellowman in perfect justice and equity, and in all matters was moved to action by conscientious motives. He was widely loved, honored and respected by those who knew him. He was united in marriage with Miss Jennie E. Yarger on July 4, 1882. To them were born eight children, all of whom, with his wife, survive him. The children are Mrs. Ola Aharrah, Ridgway; Mrs. Nellie Manson, Rimersburg; Mrs. Ethel Heasley, Youngstown, 0.; Mrs. Mabel McNaughton, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Dorothy Myers, Sligo; Walter and Raymond Platt, Youngstown, O. and Lester Platt at home. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and one half-¬sister, Mrs. Emma James, of Oil City. Mr. Platt's funeral service was held at his late home last Saturday afternoon, the Rev. W. J. Baldwin, his pastor, and the Rev. D. A. Platt, a life-long friend having charge, and the latter delivering the memorial sermon. A large company of friends and neighbors paid their last tribute of respect. The floral tributes were unusually numerous and very beautiful. The interment was made in the Clarion Cemetery. Groves' wife, Diana, 21, who is four months pregnant, started downstairs and heard another shot, which police believed was Pritchard shooting himself. She then called for an ambulance and alerted police. The Pritchard’s daughter, Kimberly, 14, left for school shortly before the shootings.
