5/28/1929 Oil City Derrick - Sligo News - By Don Mahle

   The 23rd annual banquet of Sligo high school Alumni Association will be held in the dining rooms of the Presbyterian church, Sligo, Wednesday evening, May 29, immediately after commencement exercises, which will be held in the M.E. church.

   The C.I.C. Sunday school class met on Wednesday evening with Mrs. Turney Henry on Colraine st. A business session was held followed by a very interesting entertainment conducted by Mrs. Ralph Hawk, after which a delicious lunch was served. Those present were Mesdames Burns, Ralph Hawk, Guy Hawk, Bennett, Slater, Ediline, Rhea, Ketner, Henry, Shoup, Chester Myers, Orville Myers, Bracken, Barger, Fagley, Charles Silvis and one guest, Mrs. Forest Kunselman.

   Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Hartsell and daughter, Lillian, and Professor Dow Hartsell of Seneca spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fagley and Mr. and Mrs. John Greenawalt.

   Mr. and Mrs. John Long of Vandergrift were Saturday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hawk.

   Mr. and Mrs. Jack Shaw and family of Pittsburgh spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Shaw and Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Callen.

   Mr. and Mrs. Ira Miller were Strattanville business callers on Monday.

   Mrs. Jennie Hodil and J.P. Berrean motored to Franklin on Thursday afternoon.

   Mr. and Mrs. LaRue Colwell and little daughter of Pittsburgh, were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Turney and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Craig.

   Mr. and Mrs. Claude Barger and Miss Alice Switzer spent several days last week at Grove City.

   Mrs. Clyde McKee was taken to Brookville hospital last Wednesday and on Friday underwent a serious operation. She is getting along as well as can be expected

   Dr. and Mrs. Ketner, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Summerville motored to Grove City on Wednesday, Mrs. Summerville entered Dr. Bashline's hospital for observation and treatment. Mrs. Summerville has been in poor health for some time.

   Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hodil motored to Pittsburgh Sunday and attended the wedding of their daughter, Miss Blanch Hodil to Oscar Scharm at the Evangelical parsonage, by Rev. Elsley and after a short wedding trip to Cleveland, will be at home at Pittsburgh.

   Mrs. Ellen Hartman spent Friday at Hobart Craig's in the country.

   Mr. and Mrs. Ben C. Mooney of Clarion called on their sister, Mrs. Rose Callen on Sunday afternoon.

   Robert Muir of Vandergrift motored to Sligo Sunday.

   Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Callen were called to Vandergrift last Friday on account of the serious illness of their mother, Mrs. D.E. Lowe, whose condition is very serious at this time.

   Mr. and Mrs. Herman Silves are enjoying a trip to Texas with a touring party that left Pittsburgh last Friday evening.

   Mr. and Mrs. Charles Silves and family spent the week end at Pittsburgh.

   Miss Phyllis Berrean spent the week end at Butler.

   Mr. and Mrs. Charles McIntire and son, William, of Warren, Ohio, are spending a few days with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. William McElravy.

   Miss ** Neil of Red Bank and John Wilson of Washington, were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Weeter.

   Richard Merriman, who is employed at Youngstown, Ohio, spent the week end with his father.

   Eugene Woods was brought home from the West Penn hospital last Sunday and is rapidly getting well.

   Mrs. E.T. Berrean visited the Brookville greenhouse on Monday and had delivered to her on Tuesday a truck load of beautiful blooming plants, which will be very suitable for Memorial day.

   Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Weeter, Mrs. Lyle Logue, Mrs. Claude Rhea, Mrs. L.R. McKee, Miss Beulah McKee, Mrs. Marjorie McElravy, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Barger and Miss Dorothy were Butler visitors on Saturday.

   Dr. Miller was taken to West Penn hospital on Wednesday.

   David Elliott of Callensburg visited his son, Claire and family last week.

   Rev. Jones, from Akron, Ohio, called on Mr. and Mrs. L.R. McKee Thursday evening.

   Mr. and Mrs. R.L.* Snyder of Shippenville were Monday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Logue.

   P.O. Wyman, Russell and Beulah McKee visited Mrs. Clyde McKee at Brookville hospital on Wednesday evening.

   Mrs. Aaron Alders is a patient in the Brookville hospital and is in very serious condition.

   E.T. Berreans are giving their building a new coat of white paint. Edward Slaugenhaupt of Callensburg is the painter.

   Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hodil, Mrs. Jennie Hodil, motored to Pittsburgh last Friday. They were accompanied by Miss Blanche Hodil who remained in the city. Transcribed by Pamela Myers-Grewell.

   The baccalaureate sermon was preached Sunday evening by Rev. Milton Thomas in the M.E. church to Sligo high school class of 1929. Program follows:

   Mr. and Mrs. Meade Greenawalt and family spent Sunday with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Burt Pollum of West Freedom.

   Mr. and Mrs. John Hardy of Lawsonham spent Saturday with their niece, Mrs. Oscar Shoup.

   Mr. and Mrs. Perry McGuire and children and Mrs. * Hilliard of Vangergrift, spent Sunday with the former's sister and the latter's daughter, Mrs. Oscar Shoup.

   Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fagley and family spent Sunday with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Siberling of Knox.

   Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hodil, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hodil spent Sunday with the latter's daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. William Linsley at Wilson.

   Mrs. Theodore Settlemyer of New Kensington spent last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Wyman.

   Mr. and Mrs. Stitt of Salem, Ohio, spent Memorial day with their sister, Mrs. Ada Wilson.

   Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Callen and family, on Wednesday, motored to Vandergrift and spent Memorial Day with relatives.

   Mr. and Mrs. Frank Logue were Thursday morning visitors of the latter's sister, Mrs. Harry Miller.

   Memorial day was fittingly observed at Sligo on Thursday. The Sunday schools formed in line at the IOOF hall and under escort of Marshal Willis McKee and Sligo brass band, marched to the cemetery, where the graves were decorated and services were held. Music by band, invocation by Rev. Mrs. Mary Smith, address by Rev. Thomas; music by band. A large crowd was present.

   Mr. and Mrs. Melvin McElravy and family of Warren, Ohio, visited his parents last week.

   Mr. and Mrs. William McElravy, Mr. and Mrs. O.E. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Rhea, motored to Pittsburgh last Thursday to see the "games."

   Mr. and Mrs. Clint McCall of Bellevue spent Memorial Day with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Westner.

   Miss Orpha Over of Zion spent Thursday with Miss Alma Craig.

   Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bennett and sons of Clarion spent a few days last week with his brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bennett.

   Miss Betty Burns, Miss Evelyn Johnston, George and Fred Burns, motored to New York and visited Buffalo and Niagara Falls on Memorial Day.

   William Curry, Miss Evelyn McKee, Mrs. Edna McKee of Pittsburgh, spent Thursday with Mrs. George Craig.

   William McElravy injured his right hand Friday, just at quitting time, but under the care of Dr. Ketner, it is rapidly healing.

   Mr. and Mrs. Charles Haupt of Clarion, were callers in town Thursday evening.

   Sunday visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H.T. Mahle were Mr. and Mrs. C** Dale, Mr. and Mrs. Webb Allamen of Shippenville; Mrs. Edith Summerville, Eleanor and James Summerville; Mrs. Clyde McCracken and son, Laurence, of Butler.

   Mr. and Mrs. Captain Boyles of Lansing, Mich., were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. John Hartle one day.

   Mr. and Mrs. E.T. Berrean on Memorial day entertained Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas and daughter, Miss Florence Thomas of Falls Creek and Mrs. F.C. Mahaffey of Mahaffey, Pa.

   Mrs. Ellen Hartman, Mrs. Emma Conrad, Mrs. L.R. Slaugenhaupt, Mrs. Kate Gathers attended a missionary meeting last week at Curllsville, at the home of Mrs. Frank Bartlett.

   Mr. and Mrs. John Eshbaugh have moved into the McEwen house on Main st.

   Chub Brinker and Herman Craig, who are employed at Dunkirk, were Sunday visitors at their Sligo homes.

   Mr. and Mrs. Lee McElravy of Chicora spent Thursday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kuhns.

   Mr. and Mrs. Mortimer of Oil City were Thursday guests of their son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Mortimer.

   Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Neil of Rouseville spent Saturday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Neil.

   Quay Lerch spent Thursday with his mother, Mrs. Mary Lerch.

   Mr. and Mrs. Burton Slater spent Memorial Day at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hepler of Kittanning.

   Mr. and Mrs. William McEwen of New Bethlehem visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F.C. McEwen one day.

   Mrs. D** Hartman, a student nurse for professional training at West Penn hospital, Pittsburgh, was calling on friends Thursday.

   B.J. Greenawalt, J.J. Neil and Walter Gathers made a business trip to Cleveland, O., last Tuesday.

   A.L. McCall of Curllsville has purchased the filling station of H.J. Gathers and is now in possession of same.

   Memorial Day visitors for the day of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Barger and J.J. Switzer were Mrs. Switzer's daughters and husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Switzer of New Kensington and Mr. and Mrs. Faeder of Pittsburgh.

   Mr. and Mrs. Claude Barger and Miss Alice Switzer, Mrs. Alvin Shaw and Miss Elizabeth Shaw on Saturday afternoon visited Mrs. Clyde McKee and Mrs. Aaron Alden at Brookville hospital and report both ladies rapidly improving.

   Mrs. Henry Summerville is a patient in Grove City hospital on Friday had a tonsil operation and is getting along as well as can be expected.

   Don Callin and Miss Emma Peters of Butler spent Memorial Day at their former home in Sligo.

   Dr. Miller is seriously ill in West Penn hospital. His condition is reported a little better.

   Eugene Woods, who had been so seriously ill is rapidly improving. He came up erect for a walk on Saturday afternoon.

   Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gathers were Clarion business callers on Friday evening.

   Mr. and Mrs. S.P. Painter and family of St. Charles were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Homer George.

   Mrs. O.E. Wagner spent last week at New Kensington and Vandergrift.

   On Tuesday, July 2, Misses Anna Margaret and Fanny Berrean entertained at dinner 12 Punxsutawney ladies at the home of Colrain st., the honor guests being Miss Carrie Nolph whose wedding will take place this summer. These 12 ladies motored from Punxsutawney on Tuesday morning and enjoyed the hospitality of the Misses Berreans. Mesdames Will Long, Frank McCauley, John Lippert, J.W. Doncaster, J.G. Nolph, Laura Gray, Mary Lowry, Quay Morrison, Margaret Cokely, Elizabeth and Gertude Adelaun and Miss Carrie Nolph. Afternoon was spent in a major trip to the Narrows where they enjoyed one of nature's most beautiful scenes. Also a trip to the Silver Fox farm where they were informed the cheapest pets sold for $600. Also inspected the Chinchilla rabbits which they found very interesting.

   Mr. and Mrs. Alva Fleming of Mayport spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Swartz.

   Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Schwarm of Pittsburgh spent Wednesday and Thursday with her parents.

   Mr. and Mrs. Emery Magness of Curllsville and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne McElravy and LeMoyne Curll of Vandergrift were Wednesday guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Eshbaugh.

   Dick Eisenman of State College spent several days last week with Hunter Silves.

   Miss Rhoda Heeter of Callensburg visited Mr. and Mrs. John Harris on Friday.

   Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hile of Brady's Bent spent Thursday with their parents here.

   Mr. and Mrs. Adam Klink of Butler were Friday visitors at the home of their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. O.G. Wilson.

   Mr. and Mrs. Melvin McElravy, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd McElravy and families of Warren, Ohio, spent Wednesday and Thursday with parents, Mr. and Mrs. William McElravy, Mrs. McElravy and son, Paul, accompanied them home, where they will spend two weeks.

   Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ivering of Chicago are spending two weeks vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.R. Slaugenhopt.

   Mrs. Peterson and family, Miss Helen and Sarah Callen, motored to Fall Creek and spent Thursday.

   Harry Lauders, former proprietor of Narrows Inn, called on Ira Hodil last Wednesday.

   Mr. and Mrs. J.K. Stitt of Akron, Ohio, spent Thursday with the former's sister, Mrs. D.A. Wilson.

   Mr. and Mrs. Walter Zahnier and daughter and J.W. McKee motored to State College on Wednesday and spent the Fourth.

   Ellen Greenawalt, Mr. Taylor, Mr. Rody of Youngstown, Mrs. Zelda Craig of New Kensington and Allen Neal of Little Washington were Thursday guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Neal. Little James Neal accompanied his father back to Washington, Pa.

   Earl Greenawalt, Mrs. R.M. McKinney, Miles McKinney, Mrs. R.T. Mahle, Mrs. E.T. Berrean, Mrs. T.E. Hartman and Miss Phyllis Berrean were among the Clarion shoppers on Wednesday.

   Robert Muir and D.E. Lowe motored from Vandergrift on Sunday and spent the day at Sligo. Mrs. Lowe's condition is very serious.

   Mr. and Mrs. O.E. Wilson, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rhea spent Thursday evening at Cascade park.

   Mrs. Guy Hawk entertained at dinner on Friday her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Hetrick and son Paul. Mrs. Jack Stewart of Rimersburg and a brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Hetrick, and family of Braddock, Pa.

   Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wilkinson and family of Union City last week, visited their brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Burns, and on the Fourth accompanied by their mother, Mrs. Adam Whitmer, motored to Miola and enjoyed a picnic dinner.

   Miss Mae Stewart, an employee at Kaufman's, Pittsburgh, is spending her vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stewart.

   Mr. and Mrs. George Furbaugh and Mrs. *.S. Dickey of New Kensington were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. P.O. Wyman.

   Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Woods returned home Friday from Atlantic City very much benefited by their stay at Atlantic.

   Miss Alice Sweitzer, who spent last week at New Kensington, returned home Sunday.

   Dr. Miller is breaking ground for an addition to his office and when completed will have much more pleasant office rooms.

   The B.H. Hoozer, roofing and spouting experts of Rimersburg, put new spouting on the L.R. McKee store building.

   Roy Scott Hartle, who has his shoulder broken, is coming along fine, considering the nature of the break.

   Rev. Mershimer is enjoying a few days of rest at home.

   Mr. and Mrs. J.D. McKinney and family have moved into the new home just erected this spring in Colraine st. and Mr. and Mrs. John Myers of Knox are now occupying the house vacated by the McKinneys.

   Mr. and Mrs. Heber Rankin welcomed a new baby girl, 11 pounds, into their home on July 4.

   Mr. and Mrs. Dean Stewart of Ben Avon spent several days last week with Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Weeter.

   Harry and Kathryn Hawk, Herman Stewart, Lois and Ruth Ditty, of Rimersburg, hiked to Sligo and spent the afternoon with their aunt, Mrs. Guy Hawk.

   J.P. Berrean, Mrs. Jennie Hodil, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Turney motored to Oil City on Thursday evening and attended a show at the La*onis theatre.

   Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Henry and sons, Max and Dick; Mr. and Mrs. Fred McKinney and son, Fred and Pat Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Switzer, Clarence (Sech/Seehl?) and Mrs. Ruby McKinney, Kenneth Jones, Miss Eleanor Keys , Mrs. Mary Whitten and son, Ralph, composed a party who spent the holiday at Conneat Lake last Thursday.

   Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hamm and Mrs. Abner Platt of Leatherwood visited Mr. and Mrs. John Hartle Monday.

   Don B*** and Frank McKinney of Akron, Ohio, called on their aunt, Mrs. Lizzie Hartle, Sunday afternoon.

   Mr. and Mrs. John Turney and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hodil enjoyed a picnic dinner at a park near Du Bois Saturday.

   Mr. and Mrs. Howard Deitrick and daughter, Miss Esther, of Knox, visited Mr. and Mrs. William Colwell on Sunday.

   Paul Neil and boy friend, Charlie Ba*s, arrived from Philadelphia on Sunday for a two weeks vacation with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Neil.

   Dr. and Mrs. Leslie Baldwin of Millvale on last Thursday visited his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. L.F. McKee.

9/11/1929 Oil City Derrick - Sligo News Notes - By Don Mahle

   Mrs. H.T. Mahle attended the 13th annual reunion of the James and Mary Lawrence Buzard reunion at the Pioneer Gardens on Monday. About 40 descendents were present and a sumptuous repast was partaken of at the noon hour. After dinner a short business session was held and officers elected as follows: President, Edward Buzard, Strattanville; vice president, Jay Buzard, Knox; treasurer, J.H. Buzard, Jr., Brookville; secretary, Ida Reichard, Strattanville. Time and place of next reunion to be set by officers.

   Miss Hazel Myers and Miss Sarah Callen motored to Kittanning on Wednesday on business.

   Mr. and Mrs. Charles Applegate and family have moved from Clarion into the T.R. Slaugenhaupt house on Colraine st.

   Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Hemminger and family of New Castle and Mr. and Mrs. Edward C**ck of Niles, Ohio, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. D.A. Conrad over the week end. While here they visited their mother, Mrs. Angeline Hartman at Curllsville.

   The Mail Carriers association of Clarion county met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D.A. Conrad one evening last week. There were 13 mail carriers and wives present and some children. A very pleasant evening was spent and at the hour adjourned to meet with Mr. and Mrs. Leon Henry at New Bethlehem next week.

   Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Shaw and family of Library spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Shaw and attended the Callen reunion near Sligo, with about 135 present.

   Miss Margaret and Kathleen Allen of Bellvue spent the past week at the J.P. Berrean home on Colraine st.

   Mrs. E.O. Wagner attended the Downs reunion which was held at Oak Grove, near Rimersburg on Monday.

   C.E. Callen of Kittanning was week end guest of his sister, Mrs. D.H. Bashline.

   Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hodil, Dr. and Mrs. F.F. Silvis and son, Dick, and Mrs. Mary Shadle motored to Conneaut Lake and spent Labor day.

   Mr. and Mrs. Walter Zahniser of Pittsburgh spent the week end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. McKee and attended the McKee reunion, which was held at J.W. McKee's on Labor day. About 50 were present to enjoy the day.

   Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kunselman of New Bethlehem spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Adams.

   Mr. and Mrs. Ira Miller of Sligo, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Miller and family of Barberton, Ohio, spent Sunday with their mother, Mrs. Clara Miller at Frogtown.

   Mr. and Mrs. W.A. McAllister of Butler on Sunday visited with their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Lewis.

   Mr. and Mrs. George Myers and Mr. and Mrs. George Greenawalt of Oil City, called on Mrs. Homer Wiser last Sunday.

   Mr. and Mrs. Frank Glenn of Mt. Lebanon were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Woods one day last week.

   Mr. and Mrs. John Turney, Mrs. Jennie Hodil and J.P. Berrean motored to Clearfield and spent Labor day.

   P.O. Wyman and Thomas Mahle spent Wednesday and Thursday last week at New Kensington and Natrona, visiting friends.

   Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Logue and daughter of Greenville, spent the week end with their parents in town.

   Thomas Mahle and V.D. Armstrong left Sunday for Rochester, N.Y., after a week's vacation at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R.T. Mahle.

   Mr. and Mrs. Chester Davis of Warren, Ohio, spent the week end and Labor day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. Logue.

   Mr. and Mrs. Charles Silvis and family spent the week end and Labor day in camping and fishing at President.

   Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Cartwright and sons, of Clarion, were Sunday evening guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Texter.

   Mrs. Betty Winkett of Youngstown, Ohio, and Robert Muir of Vandergrift visited the week end and Labor day with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Muir.

   Mr. and Mrs. James Stevens of Steubenville, Ohio, were week end visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Woods.

   Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Anderson and family and Mrs. Leulah Hogan of Parkers Landing called on their aunt, Mrs. Harvey Mahle last Monday.

   Don Mahle, Homer Logue and Scott Wagner motored to Stoneboro and attended the fair on Labor day.

   Miss Phyllis Berrean, Mrs. E.T. Berrean, Mrs. Lucy Miller and Mrs. Blanche Turney spent a day recently at Oil City.

   Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Shoup Mr. and Mrs. Grover Shoup and family spent Labor day by attending the Stoneboro fair.

   Robert Miller of Frogtown is doing carpenter work for his brother, Ira Miller at this time.

   Mr. and Mrs. Cy Neeley have moved into the Henry Heeter house on Colraine st.

   Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock Ruth Pierce of Rimersburg became the bride of Russell McKee at the study of Rev. L.S. Mershimer, officiating clergyman. A wedding dinner was served at 6 p.m. at the home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde McKee and a rousing old fashioned serenade was held in the evening. The bride and groom will reside at Rimersburg where the groom had a home newly furnished to go into at once.

   Mrs. E.E. Weeter and Mrs. Lucille Rhea, motored to Butler on Wednesday and spent the day shopping.

   Mrs. Mary Stover and daughter, Laura, who have spent the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.E. McEwen, left by motor on Tuesday morning for their home at Harrisburg. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. McEwen. Transcribed by Pamela Myers-Grewell.

    Mr. and Mrs. Bart Seifert and son Kenneth, Mrs. D.E. Shindledecker of Kingsville and Mrs. Arthur Shindledecker of Clarion spent Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D.H. Bashline.

   A number of relatives of Mrs. Rose Callen spent a day with her in honor of her 78 (birthday?). Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Lobaugh of Parkers Landing, Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Mooney, Mr. and Mrs. John Myers of Clarion, Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Mooney, Miss Elliott and Walter Mooney of Sligo, Mrs. J.A. Mooney of Curllsville, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Mooney of Brookville, Mrs. C.L. McCoy and Catharine of Sligo and Mrs. Jennie Myers of Buffalo, N.Y.

   Mr. and Mrs. O.H. Morgan and daughter, Helen, of Wilkinsburg spent the week end with Mr. Morgans cousin, Mrs. M.J. Parsons.

   Miss Eleanor Haskell of Clarion was in town Friday and called at the school house.

   W.B. Brown of Franklin was in town on business last Wednesday.

    Boy Scouts held a social Saturday evening in the M.E. Hall and their net profits were thirty dollars.

   Mrs. Herb Snyder and children of Rochester, Pa., are spending the week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Morris.

   Mr. and Mrs. Allen Lewis and family were Saturday over night guests of Mr. Lewis brother at Kissinger Mill.

   Miss Ruth Neil has resigned her scholarship at S.S. Hospital Pittsburgh on account of not being strong enough for the work.

   Mr. and Mrs. Rush Felt of Franklin spent Sunday with their aunt, Mrs. Jennie Hodil.

   Mr. and Mrs. J.P. McCauley of Penn Station were Sunday guests of P.O. Wyman and his mother.

   Dr. and Mrs. Jess Slaugenhaupt of Detroit, Mich., are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Slaugenhaupt.

   Mrs. John Berrean and son, Forest of Bradford spent the week end at the Berrean home on Colraine st.

   Mr. and Mrs. Russell McKee of Rimersburg spent several days last week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde McKee.

   Mr. J.J. Neil and Mr. E.E. Weeter left on Monday morning for Buffalo where Mr. Neil will attend a post master's convention.

   Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hile of East Brady were Sunday evening callers at the J.D. Hile home.

   Dr. M.K. Willoughby and Mr. John H. Thomas of Art Vogue Corporation, Dover, N.Y., and Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas of Falls Creek and Mrs. F.C. Mahaffey of Mahaffey, Pa., were Thursday guests of Mrs. E.T. Berrean.

   Mr. and Mrs. William Craig and family and Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Hackbarth motored to Karns City, and spent the day with the later's daughter, Mrs. William McElravy.

   Mr. A.L. McCall is building a new filling station on Bald Eagle St., on the opposite corner from where he is now located.

   Mr. and Mrs. Judd Morris and family spent Sunday at Butler.

  Mr. and Mrs. Charles Silves, Mrs. Herman Silves and son, Hunter, spent Sunday and Monday at Pittsburgh.

   Mrs. Eugene Weible and son of East Brady spent several days last week at the home of her father, Mr. J.D. Hile.

   Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lorenz and son, Billy of East Brady were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Simpson.

   J.P. Berrean and Jennie Hodil attended Brookville Fair last Thursday.

   Mr. Harry DeViney of Pittsburgh, Mrs. R.Y. DeViney and daughter, Mary of Knox, called on Mrs. Phyllis Berrean Saturday morning.

   W.M. Heeter is erecting a bungalow on Madison st. and when finished will be occupied by Barber Smathers.

   Mrs. Charles Silves has opened a Beauty Shoppe at Rimersburg and is out there three days each week.

   Carl Heeter and Clarence Thorne left Saturday morning for Pittsburgh where they entered W. & J. College.

   Mrs. Cornell's brother from Erie spent the week end with her at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chet Myers.

   Mrs. Blanche Silves and Mrs. Manda Mahle motored to Clarion Saturday afternoon.

   Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Weeter and Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Hartman spent one day last week at M.E. Conference at Meadville.

   The sale of Claude Bargers was called off last Saturday afternoon on account of rain and will be held this Saturday Sept. 31 at 1 p.m.

   On Saturday evening the Ladies of Sligo Rebekah gave a farewell party to Mrs. Lucille Barger.

   Mrs. D.H. Bashline and Mrs. H.D. Silves spent a day last week at Franklin.

   Kelly Lo*e who is employed at Leechburg spent the week end with his family here.

   Miss Irene Lowry of Butler spent the week end with Miss Grace (Hile?).

   R.A. Callen has purchased the Robert Stewart property on Bald Eagle St.

   Saturday and Sunday guests of Mr. J.J. Switzer were: Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Switzer of New Kensington, Robert Switzer of Grove City, Mr. and Mrs. Jo (Eseder?) of Pittsburgh.

   P.O. Wyman, J.P. McCauley, Russell McKee and Mr. Pr** motored to Freeport on Sunday afternoon.

   Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Stow were Callensburg callers on Sunday.

   Prof. Hartman and Mr. W.J. Forsythe spent Friday evening at Brookville.

11/22/1929 — SLIGO NEWS

   On Thursday evening the Willing Workers Bible class of the Presbyterian church held its monthly meeting in the church basement. Each member had their husband or friend as a guest. After the devotionals and business meeting a very special praising program was presented by Mrs. R** Myers and Mrs. John M. Kinney. This was opened by Mrs. M. Kinney giving a reading entitled "A Heap O'Living," by Edgar A. **cel." The remainder of the evening was spent in games, contests and other forms of amusement. A delicious buffet lunch was served at 10 o'clock.

   Prof. H.A. Hartman spent Friday evening at Camp Coffman where he delivered an address on "The Nature of a Boy," to several prospective scout masters.

   The Ladies' Aid society of the M.E. met at the home of Mrs. Ira Miller on Wednesday afternoon.

   Miss Maude and Walley Stewart spent Monday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B.R. Stewart at Rimersburg, honoring Mr. Stewart, it being his *8th birthday.

   Rev. Milton Thomas, local M.E. pastor, is holding meetings at Monroe chapel, assisted by Miss Lois Gregory of Waterford, Pa.

   Sunday visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Peterson were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gay and mother, Mrs. John Henry, of Erie.

   Mrs. Alnora Thomas of Centerville is visiting her sister, Mrs. Milton Thomas.

   Mrs. William Waite, who is staying with her daughter, Mrs. Daisy Pilter, at Butler, on account of illness, spent the week end at her home here, returning to Butler on Tuesday morning for an indefinite stay.

   Miss Hazel Young of Cowansville spent the past week with her aunt, Mrs. Sydney Guthrie.

   Mr. and Mrs. Albert Henry spent Sunday with her parents near Sigel.

   Carl Heeter and Clarence Thorne of W. and J. spent the week and a **ice day with their parents.

   Mrs. Ellen Hartman and Mrs. Stella Elliott were guests of the Mt. Airy Bowing circle at the home of Mrs. James Craig last Thursday when 16 members met to spend the afternoon with their fancy work. The hostess served a delicious lunch, assisted by Mesdames Craig Elliott and Griffith.

   Mr. and Mrs. Charles McIntire of Warren, Ohio, were Thursday guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William McElvany.

   Mrs. George Craig is visiting relatives in Butler and Pittsburgh.

   Mr. and Mrs. Bird McElravy of Churchville were Sunday guests of their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. John Eshbaugh.

   Mr. and Mrs. Claude Barger and Miss Alice Switzer of New Kensington, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Barger of Karns City, Miss Ann Barger of Pittsburgh, Leroy McKelry of Butler were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Barger.

   Prof. H.A. Hartman spent the week end at Freeport visiting friends whom he knew while teaching in the Freeport High School.

   Mr. and Mrs. Claude Rhea and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rhea motored in Oil City Monday evening and enjoyed a picture show.

   Leslie Craig motored to Andover, Ohio, Sunday and was accompanied home by Mrs. Craig, who spent last week with her sister, Mrs. Salyards.

   Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Callen spent the week end and Armistice day with relatives and friends at Pittsburgh.

   Mr. and Mrs. Albert Switzer visited Mr. Switzer's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ed W**, at Miola on Saturday.

   W.J. Forsythe spent the week end at Grove City.

   Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Schwarm of Pittsburgh spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hodil.

   Bill Gathers, manager of the A. & P. store at New Bethlehem, spent the week end at home and attended the funeral of his grandmother, Mrs. Alpheus Fox.

   Miss Grace Hile and her father, J.D. Hile, spent the week end with his daughters at East Brady.

   Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gay and her mother, Mrs. John Henry, of Erie, were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Peterson.

   Mr. and Mrs. Smathers and Jack spent the week end and Armistice day with her parents at Tylersburg.

   Mrs. Bert Shields and Miss Ruth Shields are spending this week with relatives in Oil City.

   Miss Ellen Fox and Mrs. Luts, students of Clarion college, called on Miss Lena Fox at the home of Mrs. H.E. Gathers on Armistice day.

   Allen Neal of Mayburg, N.Y., spent the week end with his parents and on Monday accompanied by his father they visited his sister, Mrs. McAllister, in Butler Hospital.

   Mrs. Belle Fleming and daughter, Miss Margie, of Cleveland, O., and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fleming were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Craig.

   Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Coleman of Coraopolis spent the week end with her sister, Mrs. *.*. Gathers.

   Mr. and Mrs. Charles Silves spent Sunday at Kittanning, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hartman.

   Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Carberry of Curllsville and son, Jake Carberry, of Vandergrift, were Sunday visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Carberry.

   Miss Margaret Berrean spent several days at Mr. and Mrs. H.J. McGlauthey's at Pittsburgh last week.

   J.P. Berrean, Milt, Anna and Miss Patsy Berrean and John Carmody attended the funeral of L.J. McGaughey's mother at Pittsburgh last Saturday morning.

   Mrs. John Muir and Ronald attended the funeral of Mrs. Muir's aunt last Thursday at Ridgeway.

   Dick Stewart and Alma Bennett of Clarion were Saturday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bennett.

   Mr. and Mrs. C.E. McGinnis and family of Emlenton were Saturday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bennett.

   Mr. and Mrs. C.H. McGinnis and family of Emlenton were Sunday evening dinner guests of their daughters and fmaily, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. McKinney.

   Charles E*** of State College was Sunday guest of Miss Elizabeth Shaw.

   Mrs. Emma M** spent last week with her daughter, Mrs. James Miller, at Wilkinsberg.

   Mr. and Mrs. Ben Simpson of Reynoldsville spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. *** Simpson.

   Miss Anna Berrean spent the week end and Armistice day at home of J.P. Berrean, and Mrs. Jennie Hodil accompanied her to *** by motor on Monday afternoon.

   Miss Fanny Berrean and John Carmody are spending the week in Pittsburgh.

   Mr. and Mrs. Wayne McElravy and little son, of Vandergrift, spent the week end and Armistice day at their home near here.

   Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Colwell, Mr. and Mrs. L.R. Colwell, and daughter, Barbara, of Pittsburgh, spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Turney. On Sunday they were all dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Craig.

   Mr. and Mrs. Robert Groce and family and Claire Groce of Emlenton were Sunday guests of their sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Muir.

   Mr. and Mrs. Max Irvin, Mr. and Mrs. *.R. **ner visited in Clarion Sunday afternoon.

   John Craig expects to leave soon for Los Angelas, Calif.

   Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Hillbrook of Cookland, Ohio, were overnight guests Monday of their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Max Irwin.
