10/7/1964 Water Plant Open House Scheduled SLIGO - Richard Henry, president of the water authority, announced an open house at the new water plant at a meeting of the Sligo Council held Tuesday in the fire hall. The open house will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. October 17 at the water purifier and softener plant. Mr. Henry said the sanitary engineer has informed the authority to submit a bacteriological report once a month. Council was directed to lower the curb boxes on Bald Eagle St. and to enlarge the overflow at the reservoir. The water authority requested the borough consider a sewage disposal system with the possibility of federal and state grants which would help with the financing at this time. No action was taken at this time. Paul McKee, the vice president, conducted the meeting in the absence of the president. Mr. McKee submitted his resignation because he has moved to Clarion. A 10-day notice will be sent to people who are delinquent with their water bills. Council decided to keep the phone at the new water plant which had been installed originally by the contractor. A grate will be installed over the hole at the corner at 10th and Morris St.
2/5/1969 The Derrick—Sligo Borough Council Reviews Water Complaint SLIGO-- Sligo Borough Council reviewed complaints on the condition of water in the borough at the meeting Tuesday evening in the fire hall. It was reported that the water has been getting steadily worse for a long period of time and it is becoming harder and more discolored. It was also reported that the water filtration system is not working properly and requires constant watching. The board decided to get a factory man to come and check out the entire system. Announcement was made that $10,000 of the Sligo Borough Water Authority was 4 and 1/2 percent bonds due November 1, 2003, are available for a cost of $8,050.

5/7/1970 Sligo Discusses Water Authority Reorganization SLIGO - Reorganization of the water authority was the topic under discussion at a meeting of the Sligo Borough Council Tuesday evening. Richard B. Henry agreed to serve one more year on the authority in help with the reorganization. Firemen Ralph Burris and Carlton Murray were present and discussed with the council the plans for expansion fo the present firehall. Council gave approval for the fire company to continue with the project. Borough solicitor, Merle Wiser, discussed the matters of sewage and alley pavement with the council. James Grant, Jr., president of the Sligo Area Recreational Board, was present and advised council that there is an urgent need for more supervision at the recreational center. He also stated that a special meeting will be held on May 12 concerning fund grants for the center. The road committee was instructed to investigate possible projects to utilize the funds from the county aid and liquid fuel taxes. It was decided by council to have a $35 charge to have water turned on with the amount to be determined after a one year period or before should the person leave the area. It was also agreed that water will be shut off if bills are not paid after two billings (four months) instead of three billings which has been the usual procedure. A notice will be sent five days prior to the shut-off date. Council also approved the purchase of seven new water meters to replace faulty ones. Council agreed to give the borough policeman a raise in salary and also to pay the pension plan for the borough maintenance man. The wages of part-time employes, Frank Fagley and John Black, will be increased as of June 1. Any other employes to be hired must be approved by council prior to the actual hiring.
9/4/1970 Oil City Derrick — Sewerage Plant Discussed SLIGO - The new proposed sewerage treatment plant was discussed by members of the Sligo Borough Council at its meeting on Tuesday evening. Dick Henry of the Sligo Water Authority attended the meeting and introduced Bob Wingert of Yost Associates who explained some of the necessary procedure in regard to the project. Council requested that Wingert submit an up-to-date report on the proposed sewarage plant and file appropriate reports. Another representative of Yost Associates will visit the water treatment plant within the next few days and make his recommendations in an effort to overcome some of the problems being experienced at the plant. It was noted that delinquent water bill notices will be sent and if bills are not paid within five days, water will be turned off. Walter Yates, temporary maintenance man, gave a review of various jobs being done in the borough. He was instructed to secure prices for a new lawn mower and report his findings to the Council.
1982— R. Ed Myers attained his employ at Sligo as the Borough Supervisor for the water department, who also maintained street repairs, and later the wastewater facilities. Ed received his certifications through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources (D.E.R.) and has overseen the water and wastewater treatment for the Sligo vicinity for a number of years.
2005 — PA-American purchased the Sligo Borough water department. |
