Joseph Frederick Haas was born 7 Feb 1842 in Erie, PA, to  Fredolin Haas and Maria Otilia Decker. Maria's first husband was a Mr. Baker. Joseph's grandparents were Carl Decker and Susannah Geib. 

Joseph lived in and around Meadville, Crawford County, Pa. from about 1853 to 1873.

Joseph died 11 Apr 1874 in Alexandria, VA, from wounds he had received ten years earlier at the Battle of the Wilderness. He is buried in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville in Section 7, Lot 101.

A table made by Joseph, circa 1866, is on display at the Baldwin-Reynolds Museum in Meadville, Pa.
