Keep Family Cemetery

The Keep Family Cemetery is a very small inactive cemetery located in Conneaut Township. This cemetery is located near the corner of Knapp Road and Keepville Road, on the bank of the Conneaut Creek West Branch in a grove of trees. It cannot be seen from the road. A history of this cemetery has not been provided, but will be added along with any other information as it becomes available. The oldest burial date seen was 1822, the latest death date noted being 1855.

The contributor has indicated that the listing below has been transcribed from a cemetery reading dated April 26, 1981 by Thomas A. Hutzelman.

Keep Family Cemetery

Added: December 4, 2006:

Asa Hewitt is a Revolutionary War Patriot. Two other Revolutionary War Patriots are supposed to be buried in this cemetery; however, the exact location of the graves is unknown. Both Barnabas Cole and Matthew Keep are listed in the SAR publication, Revolutionary Patriots in Erie County, as being buried in Keep Cemetery. One record for Barnabas Cole has him buried on the Abe Knapp Farm.

Barnabas Cole - born 20 Mar 1751, died 23 Feb 1839.

Matthew Keep - born 24 Mar 1745, died 6 Feb 1827.
