City of Erie - St Paul's Roman Catholic Church
The Netta Cappa Sorority

Contributed by Rick Landers

The information below has been extracted from the Souvenir Dedication Program, March 17, 1935, for Saint Paul's Roman Catholic Church. The church, located in the City of Erie on Walnut Street between 16th and 17th, had its beginning in May 1891. Ground was broken for a new House of Worship on August 19, 1928, but the economic recession at the end of the 1920s resulted in a partially completed building. With renewed funding efforts about 1933, the building was completed. Images of the pages in the dedication program have been scanned and provided by Rick Landers. Various individuals have assisted in transcribing the documents for presentation here. This particular page has been transcribed by Genie Flahie.

The Netta Cappa Sorority

Organized in May, 1930, and carrying on the work of Catholic Action in many ways, this society was primarily intended to carry out certain phases of social life in the Colony.  The affairs of Netta Kappa have always been on a high level and the assistance rendered to St. Paul’s in the edifying life of its members is a real force for good in the community.  The members comprising the Sorority are generally members of the Young Ladies’ Sodality and many of the experiences of both groups are mutually interchanged during the year.  Although small numerically in membership, Netta Kappa has a long litany of achievements for the church to its credit.

The society was established in May of 1930 and has functioned since that time under two presidents;  Ida Bevilacqua and Angeline De Laura.

            The present officers are:

                        President—Susan Gambatese,

                        Vice President—Mrs. Olympia Gambatese,

                        Secretary-Treasurer—Clara Ferretti.

The present members are as follows:

               Ida Bevilacqua,                                  Stella E. Gambatese,

               Julia Bevilacqua,                                Susan Gambatese,

Angeline De Laura,                            Mrs. Olympia Gambatese,

Margaret De Santis,                           Mrs. Jessie Leone,

               Clara Ferretti,                                    Jean Verdecchia.
