Girard Academy - circa 1891 photo

The photo and information below have been submitted by Evelyn Baker. The photo is from the collection of Ruby Dibble Tyrrell, bequeathed to her daughter, Christina Tyrrell Sedler. It shows about three elementary classes at the Girard Academy taken from the back of the school. Notice the wooden shutters, all the hats, and the barefoot boy in the front row. The data was scanned and transcribed by Evelyn Baker and Samuel Baker, Jr. Research of the birth dates of several students places the year at 1891. This school on Main Street in Girard, PA, was known as The Academy. It was built about 1854. If anyone has additional information about the material presented below, please contact Evelyn.
