Conneaut Township Covered Bridges
Cherry Hill

This bridge, built about the 1870s by
Jay Sherman, replaced an earlier structure that was washed away by an
ice flow.
Unlike other bridges in the county, this bridge featured two lanes, which made
two way traffic possible. The only disadvantage was the narrow width of the
bridge, at 24 feet wide it made it impossible for farmers to bring a good load
of hay across. Construction was of the lattice type. It was
necessary, because of the construction type, to have longer supporting spans.
This kept the bridge from swaying when the party reached the middle of the
bridge. This bridge was replaced in 1927 a modern concrete structure.
