Great Valley Chapter contributes to the preservation
of several historic sites associated with the men and women
who achieved American Independence.
Paoli Battlefield: The Great Valley Chapter made donations to the Paoli Battlefield Preservation Fund which purchased the land that was the site of the Paoli Massacre on September 21, 1777. On September 21, 2002, the Paoli Battlefield was dedicated as a national historic site. Members attended the dedication services and witnessed the re-enactment of the 1777 battle. Valley Forge National Historical Park: This historic park honors the encampment of the Continental Army during the winter of 1777-78 under the command of General George Washington. Our Chapter assists in the maintenance of the NSDAR Valley Forge Memorial Bell Tower at the Washington Memorial Chapel in the park and contributes to the park's educational programs for children. Brandywine Battlefield State Park: The Great Valley Chapter is active in the care of this Revolutionary Battlefield at Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. At this site the Continental Army commanded by General George Washington fought the British forces led by General William Howe in the first battle of the Philadelphia Campaign of 1777. Waynesborough: Members volunteer their time and talents at the home of Revolutionary War General Anthony Wayne. The Chapter has purchased period artifacts that are used for children's programs. |
