PAINDIAN - Indiana County, PA Listserv

Excerpted from the Clark House News, August 1998 - article by Thomas Nagy, the list's owner

There is a wealth of genealogy resources on the internet that can be accessed through email lists. These mailing lists are FREE. They are setup and managed by volunteer genealogists familiar with the county of interest.

County mailing lists may have hundreds of subscribers. When you send a message to the mailing list it is automatically resent to all the subscribers. Subscribers post queries and do lookups from the library, county historical society, cemetery listings or personal genealogy reference books. County mailing lists are also a great method to connect with others searching your surname or area of interest. It is common to meet distant cousins and not so distant cousins.

You can subscribe in either "mail" mode or "digest" mode. If you subscribe in the "mail" mode, you will receive each message posted to the mailing list as a separate message. If you subscribe in the "digest" mode, you will receive one or two digest messages a day containing the last six to ten messages sent to the mailing list. Most lists generate five to twenty-five individual email messages or one to three digests per day.
