    The following people have agreed to do limited lookups in resources that they own or have access to which have genealogical data for Lackawanna County. If you have access to any resources please consider volunteering.

    Before you request a Lookup:

    • Please limit your request to one name per request, or two if it is a married couple.
    • Please make your requests as specific as possible (first name, last name, dates, etc.).
    • Please do not expect volunteers to give you every reference to the name Jones in a particular source-wherever possible, provide dates and full names for the person you are interested in.
    • Please do not ask for hard copies to be mailed; the volunteers have been asked not to comply with such requests.
    • Volunteers have been advised to comply with U.S. copyright laws.
    • Include your email address in the body of your message.
    • Please put LACKAWANNA COUNTY LOOKUP in the subject line of your request to insure the message is not overlooked or accidentally deleted.
    • Please put the name of the book in which you are requesting the lookup in the first line of the message.

History of Scranton , Hitchcock, 1914  One volume of Scranton History, one volume of biographies of early Scranton settlers.

Wales in America: Scranton and the Welsh 1860-1920, by William D. Jones. Published in 1997 in paperback by the University of Wales Press (permission provided). Available in North America from Scranton University Press (ISBN 0-7083-1387-6 ) Between 1860 and 1920, around 80,000 Welsh immigrants settled in the United States. In 1900 over 17 per cent of these immigrants were living in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. The book focuses on Scranton and prominent Welsh people during the period. In addition the author examines cultural life, the literary and musical societies, eisteddfodau and religious groups as well as such things as insobriety and sport. It has a name and subject index. Microfilm of Roman Catholic parish records for Slovakia I am researching families who came from the towns in the area of Margecany, Jaklovce, and Folkmar, Slovakia, many of whom settled in Taylor Borough. Through Oct 1997, I will have the microfilm of the Roman Catholic parish record of this ancestral region of Slovakia, and would be happy to accept queries from persons knowing their family members came from there, and/or from people of Slovak descent whose 
ancestors settled in the Taylor/Old Forge area.

Prominent Men of Scranton, Wilkes Barre and Vicinity, 1906 by Dwight J. Stoddard. "From the press of the Tribune Publishing Co. Scranton, PA". This book includes the portraits and a short three to five line biography of over twelve hundred subjects from Scranton, Wilkes Barre, Pittston, Hazleton, Carbondale, and Montrose.  The portraits were done specifically for the book and the info in the biographies was supplied by the subject or his family.  It's essentially a local version of Who's Who in America. The first and surname of an individual is needed at a minimum. If available, the township or the county the individual resided. This index lists only the Head of Household. If you have a birthdate, please calculate the age of the person in 1870. Do Not Just Send The Birthdate.
