I am searching for information on relatives of Winifred Emily GALLAGHER (1867-1929). She was born in County Mayo, IRE, a d/o Barbara COX and Patrick GALLAGHER. She came to the U.S. at age 11 (about 1878) with her 13-year-old brother, Anthony GALLAGHER. They travelled alone and came to live with an old aunt living in Scranton, Pa. I believe the aunt's first name was Mary (last name unknown). Then they went to live with a daughter of Aunt Mary, whose name was "Mrs. FLANNERY." Mrs. Flannery owned a small hotel in Dunmore, PA. Winifred GALLAGHER went to school in Dunmore and Scnranton. Anthony GALLAGHER also went to school until he was old enough to go to work in the mines. He died in a mining accident in 1905. Winifred lived in Dunmore and/or Scranton until about 16 years of age, (about 1883), at which time she went to Brooklyn, NY to live with another aunt (name unknown). Winifred eventually went to Omaha, NE, where she married John LALLY. They later moved to Pittsburgh, PA, where she died. I realize this information is very sketchy. At this point, it is all I have. I would like to learn anything I can about the hotel and Mrs. Flannery in Dunmore, or any information about other Gallagher families in the area.

LACKAWANNA CO./ (LUZERNE CO.), PA QUERY: street name inquiry and surnames. My ancestors include the following families: KARDOS, BELENSKY, HRICKO, MACKO, KIPPYCASH / KIPIKASA, SIMKO / SHIMKO. All came from eastern Slovakia to what is now the area of Taylor, Lackawanna Co. They lived in a section variously known as "the patch", "Feltsville", or "Felts' patch", which apparently included what are now Oak St. and First through Fifth Streets. My great-grandmother's deed for land on Oak St. indicates that this neighborhood was once Providence Twp., Luzerne Co. I recently ordered an old map of this area. On the Feltsville map, 1873, the street I had thought was Oak St. is labelled Main St. (a) Was Main Street in Feltsville/Taylor renamed Oak Street in or about the 1920s? (b) Am I right in remembering that Oak St. comes off North Main in Taylor, sort of between Taylor and Scranton? (c) Is my map's inset, labelled Taylorville, the section between Taylor and Old Forge? (d) I see School # 4 on the Taylorville map... would that be the one which, prior to ~ 1942, stood across from St. John's RC Church on No. Main, in Taylor? (e) Anyone researching any of my families, or other Taylor-area families from Margecany, Jaklovce, or other far-eastern Slovakia towns, I woudl welcome contact. Have quite a bit of info, willing to share, always interested in discovering more. Thanks, FM
