- Surnames: FREDMONSKI, HARAGONCIH, SOKOL
Researcher: Cathy Manly Sockol

I am researching my husband's paternal family lines: SOKOL & FREDMONSKI. The SOKOL line began with Wasyl, who emigrated sometime between 1903-1906. He originally went to Ohio, resettling in Lackawanna county after he married Anna FREDMONSKI (Jan 1914). The FREDMONSKI lines began with Adolf & Anna HARAGONCIH FREDMONSKI who emigrated in 1896 (Adolf) & 1897 (Anna & their 2 oldest children). Wasyl (later Charles) is my "brick wall". I have been able to locate the immigration records for the FREDMONSKI lines, but Wasyl (born 1888 in Austro-Hungary) keeps eluding my efforts! As with most of the folks who came from the Carptho-Rusyn regions (Austro-Hungarian), both surnames have seen many changes through the years. Wasyl/Charles worked the coal mines for a time, as well as the rail-roads and finally, sold insurance. I am attempting to locate the correct office in which his declaration for citizenship might be held. He was not naturalized until after the birth of his son in 1926. Given the required 5-7 years waiting period, the BEST guess I have for the original application would be 1919 or thereabout. Although I have a copy of the marriage document from St. Nicholas' B.C. church, there is no record for the 1914 marriage in Lackawanna county (Scranton perhaps?). Over a year ago, I sent requests for infomation on Anna FREDMONSKI'S birth (born in Old Forge 1898) and the marriage record to Lackawanna county, along with checks to cover the cost of each. I received one reply on Anna's birth certificate, advising me to try Luzurne county. Nothing on the marriage record at all. They DID, however keep both checks. I WAS able to obtain a copy of Anna Fredmonski Sokol's social security application, which once again states her birth was Old Forge, Lackawanna County, PA. I would be grateful for any suggestions, as sending for documents with no success can get a bit expensive! Cathy Manly Sockol
