Will of James Clark
IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, The tenth Day of
May One Thousand Seven Hundred
and Sixty three, being sick in Body but of good and perfect
Memory, Thanks
be to the Almighty God, and calling to Remembrance the uncertain
State of
this Transitory life, and that all Flesh must Yield to Death,
when it shall
please God to call; do make, constitute, ordain and declare this
my Last
Will and Testament, in Manner and Form following, revoking and
annulling by
these presents, all and every Testament and Testament and
Testaments, will
and Wills heretofore by me made and declared either by Word or
Writing; and
that is to be taken only for my Last Will and Testament and none
other. And
first, being penitent and sorry from the Bottom of my heart for
my sins
past, most humbly desiring Forgiveness for the Same, I give and
commit my
Soul unto Almighty God, my Savior and Redeemer in whom and by the
Merits of
Jesus Christ, I trust and believe assuredly to be Saved and to
have
Remission and Forgiveness of all my Sins, and that my Soul with
my Body, at
the general Day of the Resurrection, Shall rise again with Joy;
and thru
the Merits of Christ's Death and Passion, possess and inherit the
Kingdom
of Heaven, prepared for his elect and chosen; and my Body to be
buried in
Such a Place where it shall please my Executors hereafter named
to Appoint.
And now for the settling of my Temporal Estate and such Goods,
Chattels and
Debts as it hath pleased God, far above my Deserts, to bestow
upon me, I do
order, give and dispose the Same in Manner and Form following;
(that is to
Say) First, I will that all those debts and Dues as I owe in
right and
Confidence to any Manner of Person or Persons whatsoever Shall be
well and
truly contented and paid, or ordained to be paid within
convenient Time
after my Death, by my Executors hereafter named. Item, I give and
bequeath:
Imprimis I give and bequeath to Margaret,
my dearly beloved Wife, a Horse
and Saddle fit for riding from my Sons Thomas and Joseph, her Bed
and
Bedclothes and to live along with Thomas and Joseph and have food
and
Raiment and, if she chooseth to live by herself, They are to
build her a
house furnish her with firewood to give her a cow and victualing
and
maintenance as she needeth or else fifteen Bushels of grain two
part wheat
and third part corn ground in meal and brought to her hand with
the Sowing
of half a Bushel of flax if She require such a quantity. Likewise
her
Chest, and Wheel, the Least and middling pots and a Quarter of
beef yearly
also Six plates a Dish and Ten Pounds Pennsylvania Currency.
2.) I give and bequeath my Oldest Son Peter
five pounds Currency.
3.) Item I give and bequeath to my Son John
twenty pounds Currency.
4.) Item I give and bequeath to John
Baldrige my Son in Law three Pounds
Currency after having settled accounts with him.
5.) Item I give and bequeath to my Sons
Thomas and Joseph my Plantation
moveables House, Household goods furniture having Payed each
their Shares
specified in the other Articles.
6.) Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter
Anne a horse worth about
fifteen Pounds Price with a good Saddle and Bridle a Bedding of
Clothes,
her Chest, a and fifteen Pounds Cash.
I likewise Constitute make and ordain my
Sons John and Thomas the Sole
Executors of this my last will and Testament all and Singular my
Lands,
Messuages, and Tenements by them freely to be possessed and
enjoyed. And I
do hereby disallow revoke, and disannul all and every other
former
Testaments, Wills, and Legacies, Bequests and Executors, by me in
any ways
before this time Named, Willed and Bequeathed, Ratifying and
Confirming
this and no other to be my last Will and Testament, In witness
whereof I
have here unto set my hand and Seal, the day and year above
written.

Subscriber Personally appeared James Clark, John Neel and Joseph
Reed,
three Subscribing Witnesses to the within Will and on their
Corporal oaths
did depose and say that they were Present and Saw and heard
William Clark
the Testator within named Sign Publish pronounce and declare the
within
Writing as and for his Last Will and Testament and at the doing
thereof he
was of Sound and well disposing Mind Memory and understanding to
the best
of their Knowledge observation and Belief.
