Will of William Baldrige

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, this 9th day of January 1767, I ,William Baldrige
of Little Britain Township and County of Lancaster, being in perfect health
and memory thanks be to God therefore calling into mind the mortality of my
body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and
ordain this my Last Will and Testament, that is to say principally and
first of all, I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of God that gave
it, and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian
and decent manner at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at
the general Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power
of God, and as touching such worldly wealth wherewith it has pleased God to
bless me with in this life, I give and bequeath and dispose of the same in
the following manner and form as follows:

Imprimis and first of all, I allow and ordain my best beloved wife
sixty-five pounds to be paid upon demand. I also allow and ordain my wife
sufficient victuals, drink, and clothing and washing and half an acre of
land yearly plowed to sow flax seed on and also a house by herself and fire
wood as long as she lives and also the third part of the wool yearly.

I ordain and allow my son John's heirs eight pounds.

I ordain and allow my son Alexander five pounds.

I ordain and allow my son Michael three and twenty pounds.

I ordain and (allow) my daughter Elizabeth fifty pounds, only the price of
her mare is to be taken out of the fifty pounds.

I ordain and allow my son John Poston five pounds.

I ordain and allow my former son Matthew Atchison seven shillings and six
pence.

I ordain and allow my son Michael all my plantation.

At my death, I appoint and ordain my wife and my son Michael to be my Executors.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year
above mentioned.

W.B. I do ordain five pounds for the use of John Atchison , son to Matthew
Atchison aforementioned, upon this provision that he makes no charge for
his wife's clothes which he has returned and also that he educates his boy
so as to fit him for college. But upon his making a charge for the clothes
or omitting the education of the boy, he is only to have the sum before
specified, that is , one dollar.

On the fourteenth day of January Anno Domini 1773, before me the subscriber
personally appeared the within named William Foster and Patrick Ewing, two
of the subscribing witnesses to the within annexed Will and being duly
sworn according to law, did depose and say that they were present and saw
and heard William Baldrige, the Testator within named, sign, seal, publish,
announce and declare the within annexed Will as and for his Last Will and
Testament and that at the doing thereof he was of sound and well disposing
mind, memory, and understanding to the best of their knowledge, observation
and belief.

Be it remembered that on the fourteenth day of January Anno Domini 1773,
the Last Will and Testament of William Baldrige, late of Little Britain
Township in the County of Lancaster, yeoman deceased, was proved in due
form of law, and Letters Testamentary were granted to William Baldrige, the
surviving Executor therein named, he being first duly qualified well and
truly to administer the estate of the Testator and to exhibit a true and
perfect inventory on or before the fourteenth of July next and to render a
true and just account of his administration of the said estate when thereto
lawfully required.
