Towns and townships of Lancaster county, PA.
Following are the places people have lived over the years. I have set these up to reflect when each township was formed and from what counties. I don't remember exactly when I became aware of it, but Pennsylvania also has something called Boroughs. So, to keep it straight and just so everybody knows here is a definition of each.
According to the American Heritage Dictionary a "Borough" is: "1. A self-governing incorporated town."
A town is defined as a." A population center that is larger than a village and smaller than a city." b. "A territorial and political unit governed by a town meeting, especially in New England." c. "Informal A city: New York is a big town." d. Chiefly British A rural village that has a market or fair periodically. e. The residents of a town: The whole town was upset at the news.
A township (abreviated Twp.)is: 1. subdivision of a county in most northeast and Midwest U.S. states, having the status of a unit of local government with varying governmental powers. 2. A public land surveying unit of 36 sections or 36 square miles.
