The
last Will and Testament of John Patterson of North Beaver township, Beaver
County. PA
I, John Patterson, considering the
uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound mind and memory,
(blessed be Almighty God for the same) do make and publish this my last
will and testament in manner and form following; (that is to say).
First I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth,
the wife of Benjamine Blackburne, one dollar;
Item, I give and bequeath to my daughter Christian, the wife of Matthew
Dinsmore, one dollar; Item, I give and bequeath to my
son Samuel Patterson the sum of ten dollars;
Item, I give and bequeath to the heirs of my daughter Mary,
deceased, late the wife of James Wilson the
sum of one dollar; Item, I give and bequeath to the heirs of my
daughter Catherine, deceased, late wife of
Andrew Kelso the sum of one dollar; Item, I give and
bequeath to my daughter Agnes, the wife of James
Kelso the sum of one dollar; Item, I give and bequeath
to my daughter Jane, single woman, one horse,
beast worth fifty dollars, one new side saddle and bridle, one cow, one
bedstead, bed and bed clothes and stand of curtains, one bureau and six
chairs. One falling leaf table, pewter dishes, six pewter plates and two
pewter basins, five silver tea spoons, two brass candlesticks and all the
delft ware that I possess, and also that she shall have the back room in
my dwelling house for her own use as long as she remains unmarried;
Item, I give and bequeath to my son John
Patterson the sum of fifty dollars to be paid unto him at the
expiration one year after my decease. I give and devise unto my son William
Patterson, that part of my farm lying betwicks the road and the
west line to extend along said line and road to the first partition fence
north of the spring at the roadside, out of the southwest corner of my
farm, containing as I suppose twelve acres of land be the same more or
less, to have and to hold to him the said William
Patterson, his < inserted> (the
privilege of fire wood of the rest of my farm) heirs and
assigns forever. and of all the rest, residue, sum, and remainder of
my farm, lieing and being in North Beaver township and County aforesaid,
I do give and devise unto my son, James Patterson,
to have and to hold to him the said James Patterson,
his heirs and assigns forever. I give and bequeath unto my grand daughter,
Rebecca Wilson one cow and further, after the
legatees aforementioned and all of my just debts together with my funeral
expenses shall have been paid and fully satisfied, then all the residue of
my goods, stock chattels and household furniture, I do give and bequeath
unto my son James Patterson, whom I appoint
together with my friend James Davidson executors
of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me
made. In witness hereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this
nineteenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and forty two.

Be it remembered that the 5th day of June A.D. 1852 Before me, James
MClane Register for the probate of wills in and for the County,
personally came the witness named James R. Davidson
and Samuel W. Davidson, the subscribing
witness within named, and of being sworn in due form of law, saith they
were present and saw and heard John Patterson,
the within named testator sign seal publish pronounce and declare the
within instrument of writing, as due for his last will and testament and
at the time of so doing, he was of a sound ----?---- mind memory and
understanding of the best of their observation and belief.
