Welcome to the
Lycoming Chapter web site. Our chapter is active, supporting the national objects
of our society: "Historic Preservation, Promotion of Education, and
Patriotism." If you are interested in attending a chapter meeting or becoming
a member, please contact us. We
have members who are willing to help you with your application process. We are in our 113th
year and have approximately 120 members. Our eight meetings per year have an
attendance of 30 or more members. We convene with a luncheon at noon in
Williamsport. A meeting and program begin at 1:00 p.m. Our chapter
participates twice a year at the U.S. Federal District Court House with a
Naturalization Ceremony. We welcome these immigrants as United States
Citizens with the presentation of an American Flag and refreshments. Annually
in March, we present a DAR Good Citizens monetary award to a selected senior
from one of the participating area high schools. This award rewards the
qualities of good citizenship. The student is selected for several qualities.
One is dependability, which includes truthfulness, loyalty, and punctuality. Another
is service, which includes cooperation, courtesy, and consideration of
others. Yet another is patriotism, which includes unselfish interest in
family, school, community, and nation to an outstanding degree. In May, eight
American History awards are presented to the graduating senior with the
highest average in American History in eight schools in the county. Please let us know if you are interested in our
service organization. We would love to invite you to one of our meetings. Contact Marilee
