Danville Intelligencer 1828-1879Marriages and deaths reported in the Intelligencer from 1828 through 1879 have been printed and indexed. They are on file in the MCGS Genealogy room for researchers to use. If you cannot come to Danville and you would like to see if there is anything on file for your ancestor, please e-mail our librarian, Ann Thomas, with the specific surname(s) and given name(s) you are researching. She will perform a search and, if there is anything on file, will send you copies of that page of the newspaper. There is no charge if no information is available. Otherwise, the fee is $5.00 for up to five (5) copies, plus a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Additional copies are 25¢ each. Please be aware that there are some gaps in the newspaper microfilm available, particularly during the Civil War period. Also, there often is limited information, especially for the early years. Usually, obituaries will include the date, the location of the death, the name of the spouse for adults or father for children. Marriages usually will state at least the father's name of the bride, date and location of marriage and Township of residence of each.Ann will check e-mail only on Mondays, so please be patient. If you have any questions or problems, you can always contact the webmaster, Cindy Elder.Home
