Birth/Death Records
Pennsylvania
Department of Health: How
to obtain birth, death, marriage and divorce records in Pennsylvania. New requirements to apply for a certified birth or death record
in PA went into effect February 1, 2003. Downloadable request forms
available.
Pennsylvania birth/death record indices. Death records older
than 50 years and birth records older than 105 years are now public records
under PA law. Use this link to access the indices (each year is separately
searchable) and to download forms to request a non-certified copy of the
birth/death certificate. Note: the certificate number is required on the
form so you MUST search the indices first.
Soundex codes. Some of the birth/death records use a
soundex code rather than an alphabetical listing. There is a link to
information about the soundex codes on the indices page. (Link above).
