Erecting the monument on the Square. Placing the statue
atop the
Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument, downtown Lewistown, dedicated June,
1906. The base of the monument contains a stone from Abraham Lincoln's,
Springfield, Ill. tomb. Only stone from Lincoln's tomb ever given, to
honor Mifflin County's Logan Guard, who responded first to the call for
troops by Pres. Lincoln at the start of the Civil War in 1861.
