THE TOY COLLECTION illustrates the tradition of family made toys. Pictured is a doll's Dower Chest, sponge painted and an Eagle stencil painted on interior of the lid (circa 1840) and used in the Thompson family near Reedsville. Also pictured: house, outdoor garden furniture (circa 1900) made by Samuel Tice, Lewistown, for the children of Charles M. Steinbach.

These join many others in the toy case: the double bed. painted with flowers, made by the widowed mother of the Misses Gardner, Belleville. and holds their twin dolls. A toy washing machine (1900) by William Keller for Alivia and Esther Cressman. the daughters of pastor of Lutheran Church (1895-1925); their toy high chair, by grandfather George Cressman. The large double case contains dolls, toys, etc., all a permanent collection of the Historical Society
