Dr. Ephriam Quinby,
who died in Clarksville, Penn., in October, 1872, was a native of Mercer
County, and a son of Samuel Quinby, ancestor of one of the oldest
families of the Shenango Valley. In early manhood he read medicine, and
followed the medical profession the balance of his life. He was twice
married, first to Miss Julia Guittau, of Washington Co. Ohio, who bore
him five children, two daughters of whom are living. His second wife was
Miss Angeline, daughter of Charles Stewart, of Trumbull Co. Ohio. Of
this union one son, Charles S., was born in Marietta, Ohio, June 7,
1855. The widow is now a resident of Sharon. Charles S., grew up and was
educated in Mercer County, and in the spring of 1872 began clerking in
Sharon. In the fall of 1877 he formed a partnership with T. J. Forker,
under the firm name of Forker & Quinby, which is to-day one of the
leading mercantile establishments of the town. Mr. Quinby was married in
1877 to Miss Estella Knighton, of Sharon, of which union three children
have been born: Susie, Arthur and Anna. Politically he is a Republican,
and is one of the enterprising businessmen of Sharon.

[Note: The Quinby/Quimby Family, England and America, by Henry Cole
Quinby 1915, says " Ephraim, son of Samuel, born 5 Feb 1792, near
Warren, Ohio, a physician, was educated at Jefferson College, where he
boarded with his sister Sarah and was a college mate of Dr. William
Heaton, who married his cousin, Elizabeth. He lived at Marietta, Ohio.
He married first, 12 July 1825, to Sarah, daughter of Maj. John and
Priscilla (Devoe) White of Marietta, and resided there. The descendants
all give her name as Sarah White; Mrs. Beebe and another say Sarah
Guiteau; perhaps she had both names, she died at Marrietta.] |
