GEORGE
ANDREW SNYDER is one of the progressive farmers of Delaware
township. Peter Snyder, his father, was born
March 30, 1816, in Dauphin county, Pennsylvania, and coming to Mercer
county, this state, in 1858, he located on a tract of land in Delaware
township. He followed farming and stock raising there until his death,
which occurred on the 31st of December, 1897, at the age of eighty-one
years, nine months, one day. He had married Elizabeth
Sweigard, born in Dauphin county, Pennsylvania, October 31, 1826, and
she died on the 26th of October, 1900. Her father was a prominent and well
known farmer of Dauphin county.
Unto Peter
Snyder and his wife were born nine children, as follows: Catharine,
deceased: Mary, the wife of N.
H. Sweigard, a farmer of Delaware township; Philip,
who married Jennie Bortz, and their home is
on a farm in Pymatuning township; Sadie, wife
of Joseph Page, a retired farmer living in
Fredonia; William, who married Laura
Ransom, now deceased, and his home is in Greenville; Peter
Washington, born February 22, 1862, died February 22, 1884, aged
twenty-two years; George Andrew, who is
mentioned below; Emma, wife of John
Hurst, of Greenville; and Carolina, deceased. Peter
Snyder always voted the Republican ticket, and he and his wife were
members of the German Reformed church.
George
Andrew Snyder, born November 8, 1864, was born on the farm where he
has always resided and which he now owns, being one of the best known and
most successful farmers and stock raisers of Delaware township. On the
25th of December, 1889, he was married to Emma Seem,
born in Hickory township, of Mercer county, to
Solomon and Lydia (Zimmerman) Seem,
farmers of that township. To this union one child was born, Leo
La Monte, born July 31, 1898, but the wife and mother is deceased.
On the 11th of January, 1900, Mr. Snyder wedded Sarah
Celestia Kremm, who was born in Otter Creek township, April i8,
1868, and who at the time of her second marriage was the widow of S.
F. Kremm, who died March 6, 1896, and by whom she had the following
children: Mellila Diannah, wife of Wade
Stoyer, of Greenville; Lauretta, wife
of William Stoyer, a farmer in Pymatuning township, who has one child, Kenneth
William, born June 19, 1908; Arthur La Monte;
and George Franklin Kremm.
Mrs. Snyder
is a daughter of John P. and Harriet (Reichard)
Kerschner, in whose family were eight children: Rev.
U.0.H. [Kershner], a minister in
Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania; Virena Ennetta; Clara
Cetta; Helen Susanna; Sarah Celestia; Rev. William Henry [Kershner],
of Rural Valley; Alvin Elias [Kershner],
of Cleveland, Ohio; and Harriet Louise. John P.
Kerschner, a carpenter by trade, died May 18, 1892, in politics he
was a stanch democrat, and both he and his wife were members of the German
Reformed church. She died on the 7th of July, 1908.
George Andrew
Snyder is a Republican in politics and he and his estimable wife are also
members of the German Reformed church.
