ROBERT
B. ROBERTS,
deceased, was the son of Thomas and Leanah
(Watters) Roberts, and was born May 15, 1829, in what is now Sugar
Grove Township. He was reared and educated at home. On the 12th of
January, 1858, he was married to Louesa,
daughter of William and Elizabeth (Palm) McCorkle, of
Salem Township. For fourteen years after marriage they lived on a farm
near Kennard, and then moved to another farm in Salem Township, where the
family now live. They have had four children: Clare
E., Mary J., wife of C. E. Miller, of
Crawford Country, Thomas M. and William
O. Robert R. was
drafted in the late war, but, being unable to leave his family, he
furnished a substitute. He was a Democrat, and died August 24, 1886. His
widow resides on the old homestead with her two sons, Thomas
and William. The Roberts’ are among the best known and most
respected families of the township.
