biography

ROBERT B. ROBERTS, deceased, was the son of Thomas and Leanah (Watters) Roberts, and was born May 15, 1829, in what is now Sugar Grove Township. He was reared and educated at home. On the 12th of January, 1858, he was married to Louesa, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Palm) McCorkle, of Salem Township. For fourteen years after marriage they lived on a farm near Kennard, and then moved to another farm in Salem Township, where the family now live. They have had four children: Clare E., Mary J., wife of C. E. Miller, of Crawford Country, Thomas M. and William O.    Robert R. was drafted in the late war, but, being unable to leave his family, he furnished a substitute. He was a Democrat, and died August 24, 1886. His widow resides on the old homestead with her two sons, Thomas and William. The Roberts’ are among the best known and most respected families of the township.
