(Q21) 21 Nov 1996 - Kevin P.
Probst
Surnames: PROBST
I have done some limited research into the PROBST family
who has roots going back to the late 1700's in Mercer Co. I am a
direct descendent of Henry PROBST who moved to Mercer Co.
from Eastern PA in the early 1800's. Henry was my great-great-great
grandfather. George PROBST was my g-g-grandfather,
Frederick was my g-grandfather, Arthur was my grandfather and my father was
Leslie who moved to Crawford Co., (Meadville) where I was born and
raised. Any info. on the PROBST's of Mercer Co. would
be deeply appreciated.
(Q20) 21 Nov 1996 - Charles Bitterli
Surnames: ABBENY-OBENY
I have the following data from Census Records:
1790 James ABBENY Dickson Twp, Allegheny Co.
1800 James OBNEY Fayette Twp, Allegheny Co.
1810 James OBNEY Robinson Twp, Allegheny Co.
1820 James OBNEY Fayette Twp, Allegheny Co.
Thomas
OBNEY
1830 James OBNEY Fayette Twp, Allegheny Co.
William
OBNEY
Thomas
OBNEY Wolf Creek Twp, Mercer Co.
1840 Richard M. OBNEY Fayette Twp, Allegheny Co.
Thomas
OBNEY Wolf Creek Twp, Mercer Co.
Thomas OBNEY had 4 sons in that census. 1 under age 5, 1
age 5-10, 1 age 10-15, and 1 age 15-20.
I also have 1870 and 1880 census data from Jefferson Co., OH which shows my
g-grandfather Alfred/Alfard OBNEY and my grandfather Thomas
A. OBNEY. From the ages given I believe my
g-grandfather was born in 1831. I, therefore, believe that he might
have been one of the sons of Thomas OBNEY from Mercer Co.
but I have no proof of that. I would certainly appreciate it if the
names of Thomas OBNEY's sons could be determined by
checking birth records in Mercer Co. Thanks in advance for any help.
